Favre-Leuba :The New FL 401movement

From January 18th to 24th, the almost three century old Maison Favre-Leuba unveils as a world premiere its new manufactured movement, the FL 401. This high-frequency 5 Hertz movement (36’000 vib/h) has been boosted with a long power reserve and will no doubt be celebrated as an outstanding opus among the long dynasty of Favre-Leuba calibres.

All along its history, Favre-Leuba has continued developing the performance and innovation of its timepieces, blending breakthrough technology and traditional savoir-faire. The legendary Twin-power, featuring the fi rst ever double barrel (1950), the Bivouac encapsulating a mechanical altimeter (1962), the Bathy, with its mechanical depth gauge (1966), and the Sea Raider with its high-frequency movement (1967), perfectly illustrate the brand’s continuous willingness to reinvent its future. As a pioneer of high-frequency movements, the Maison Favre-Leuba conceived the Sea Rider with,a 36’000 vib/h movement as early as in 1967, thereby inaugurating a long line of extremely precise timepieces. The new FL 401 that is being brought to light in January 2009 can boast of unrivalled performances as it combines the high precision of a 36’000 vib/h with a 8-day power-reserve.

Piaget Polo FortyFive Collection

Dynamic design meets perfectly mastered technology. Unexpected materials, a sporty look and inhouse calibres are the signature of the Piaget Polo’s next generation. On this legendary collection’s 30th birthday, four titanium creations are giving it new life. Code name: Piaget Polo FortyFive. For the Piaget Polo line’s 30th birthday, the Piaget fine watch manufacture is reinterpreting this collection in an assertively modern style. Piaget unveils four new watches that are sporty and contemporary in spirit and equipped with the manufacture’s own 800P and 880P movements – a perfect illustration of the tenet that remembering the past helps write the future.

The Piaget Polo FortyFive models are made of titanium, a first for the brand. They reinterpret the original aesthetic in a case that is watertight to 100 metres, extended by a strap made of injection moulded rubber, and expanded to a diameter of 45 mm – a size both in tune with our times and reminiscent of the average length of a polo match. The case has been given a new curve that ensures a good fit to the wrist.

The sapphire case-back reveals the movements, designed and developed entirely in-house. In addition to its chronograph and flyback functions, the 880P calibre displays the hour and minutes functions, along with small seconds at 6 o’clock, the date at 12 o’clock and a second 24-hour time zone at 9 o’clock. This 5.6 mm thick self-winding mechanical movement has two barrels and a large screw balance, and offers a 50-hour power reserve when the chronograph mode is engaged. With its column wheel and vertical coupling-clutch, it has all the qualities of a fine chronograph movement.

The other movement, the self-winding mechanical 800P, displays hours, minutes and seconds in the centre and the date at 6 o’clock. Its two barrels ensure a 72-hour power reserve. It operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour (3 Hertz), fine watchmaking’s natural frequency.

Technical performance and expertise are set off by a rhythmical architecture inspired by the historic Piaget Polo model made of precious metal, but interpreted in titanium, steel and rubber with finishes playing on contrasts in a perfect echo of the collection’s historic legacy. The case material, grade 5 titanium, is particularly sturdy and light and here is worked like a precious metal. It is decorated with steel gadroons placed at regular intervals along the bezel. These elements continue along the black injection moulded rubber strap, visually accentuating the strap’s integration with the case.

The chronograph version’s crown and pushpieces are also made of titanium and decorated with rubber cabochons. The harmony is equalled only by the striking effect of the contrasts between dark and light, matte and glossy. The subtle marriage of polished and satin-finished surfaces, here newly interpreted in titanium and steel, brings out this powerful timepiece’s character even more strongly. The sapphire case-back shows off the decoration on the movements: the plate is circular-grained, bridges are bevelled; the circular Côtes de Genève pattern and blued screws are the brand’s signature aesthetic; the PVD-treated dark-grey winding rotor is engraved with the Piaget emblem.

The dials get away from the matching tones and give the collection’s intrinsic elegance its very modern energy. The chronograph versions focus on legibility: the applied hour markers and the hour and minute hands are brightened with luminescent material, while the chronograph second hand uses a crimson hue. The distinctly coloured semicircular highlights completely spell out the functions of the counters, chronograph flyback and second time zone, while the date disc with its red arrow indicator appears in an aperture at 12 o’clock.

The self-winding versions also highlight the time indicators: Arabic numerals, luminescent applied hour markers and hour and minute hands; red seconds hand, contrasting minute markers, etc. All of these elements enhance the pieces’ sporty look and emphasise their technically advanced qualities. Thus enriching the Piaget Polo collection, the Piaget Polo FortyFive titanium models prove that the collection is more up-to-date than ever. Its lasting success is driven by an exceptional sense of Manufacture-made craftsmanship.

Maurice Lacroix- Divina Limited Edition “Étoile de Mer”

Classic, feminine ladies’ watches have been an undeniable strength of Maurice Lacroix since the brand was established. To revive this tradition, Sandro Reginelli, Product Manager Classic Collections at the Swiss watchmaker since 2003 and Product Director since 2006, was commissioned to create a completely new product line for the discriminating, self-assured woman eager to accentuate sophisti-cation and femininity. And so the search for a perfect, never before existing shape began. The watchcase was supposed to be rectangular, but in no way boxy. The dial classic, but not mundane. Overall, a watch with style and class that does not appear overpowering. The solution: The designers “twisted” the case once about its middle, so that fine, yet unmistakable lines, softly curved watchband joints, and a small waist were created – fluid, feminine shapes giving rise to associations of a female silhouette, wind-shaped dunes or soft waves. The result was a fascinating watch in two sizes that calls attention to the female, even divine side of each woman. And therefore its name: Divina – the divine. Sparkling diamonds emphasize these unique shapes even more: The precious stones either follow the soft, yet expressive lines of the Divina along a narrow row (up to 54 Top Wesselton VS diamonds, 0.534 carat) or, arranged symmetrically, fill the opposing case sides on the left top and right bottom (up to 54 Top Wesselton VS diamonds, 0.403 carat).

Each wearer is able to express her own personality by choosing the desired dial: Made silver-coloured, black or rhodium-coloured, or made from genuine white mother-of-pearl and bearing generous Roman numerals, perfectly formed to match the case shape, the Divina becomes a classic, gracious state¬ment. With Arabic numerals at “12” and “6”, it appears more playful. The 6 and 2 flow over the entire dial in a wide curve and in this way create a connection between the opposing numerals. To preserve the gentleness of these designs, the simply hands were carefully crafted as skeletons for the “12 and 6” version but remain solid for the classic version with Roman numerals. Diamonds inside the Roman or Arabic numerals additionally enhance the characteristics of the respective versions.

Limited Edition “Étoile de Mer”
The Divina celebrates a glamorous appearance in the form of the limited edition “Étoile de Mer” in which Swiss watchmaking precision unites with the highest level of jewellery art. Under the theme of “water and sea”, the designers created a stylized starfish – a spectacular creation reminiscent of the colourful underwater world. This audacious design inspired by nature’s perfect shapes enlaces not only the dial, but the whole watch as if to protect its white gold robe. Composed of diamonds, rubies and multicoloured sapphires, the Divina “Étoile de Mer” becomes a genuine work of art, a painting that gains in expression and charisma with the different surface treatments of the gems. Not lastly, the theme of “water and sea” is expressed in the watchband: It is made of precious ray leather and coloured to match the gems of the starfish. Maurice Lacroix created an unusual watch with the Divina Limited Edition “Étoile de Mer”, a sparkling piece that sets new standards for the brand. Each of the five versions of this piece of jewellery is limited to 30 pieces

Maurice Lacroix- Miros Chronographe

The Miros impresses with its free-spirited, striking, and most of all sophisticated aesthetics. These characteristics now have been accentuated even further by the Maurice Lacroix designers. The lines of the simple, elegant case have become more fluid. The rims protecting the screw-in crown softly transition into rounded watchband joints. The link bracelet seamlessly joins the case, its shape now more striking, pointedly reduced to the essential, its extraordinary comfort retained. The Miros dial – in black or silver-coloured – also presents itself balanced and perfectly proportioned. It stands out with three different levels for the centre and the outer hours and minutes rings. Its centre is decorated with an attractive sun pattern. The hours ring stands out with Roman numerals at the “6” and the “12” and index marks as well with a fine, grid-like pattern or has Arabic numerals. The Miros is available in two men’s sizes (36 mm or 39 mm) and in stainless steel or an elegant two-colour version. The case with a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal and screw-in crown is water-resistant to 100 m (10 atu).

Miros Chronographe
The chronograph of the Miros collection appeals to watch aficionados with a flair for sporting elegance. This model with its 39 mm diameter pleases not only with its precise time measurements recorded with a 30-minute and a 10-hour counter, but also with small seconds at the “3” and a convenient large date display at the “12”.

Rado Sintra Chronograph Matt

Energetic. Explicitly functional. This new chronograph from the Sintra collection by Rado stands out through an exceptional interplay of contrasts. Tension and fluidity of line. Curved contours allowing perfect integration with the barrel-shaped case and bracelet. Continuity and suppleness on the wrist. Variations of light. The brilliance of the edge-to-edge, metallized sapphire crystal emphasize the matt appearance of the ceramic. Material intensity. Whites on the black surface of the dial, counters and other details outline their function. Clarity and vigorous precision. Graphic balance. White Luminous for the indices and hands. Push-pieces integrated in the case extension. A watch like a performance. Graphically timed to the last minute.

*Matt:-Ceramic has been the hallmark of Rado models since 1986. A high-techmaterial whose multiple features offer absolute visual and sensory comfort. Permanent. Lightweight. Hypoallergenic. An incomparable carrier of color and warmth. Intimate luxury.A complex process has now made it possible to produce matt ceramic as well. The innovation reveals a contemporary perspective. A matt aspect that retains all its intensity within the black universe of the brand. It opens up a new dimension as well, a territory to explore. Matter absorbs light and finds its center once again within itself. Encounters its environment with greater intensity. Expresses itself like a vibration. Force and energy.

Rado Ceramica Chronograph Limited Edition

Bold and innovative. The Ceramica by Rado symbolizes this vision. The first watch made entirely of ceramics - today restyled by Jasper Morrison with his typical pure and functional approach toward design. A new classic. This collection reconnects to the brand’s history of black and gold models and provides a sophisticated and contemporary color range. Available in five tones - from white to pink gold - five variations, each celebrating a decade of Rado.

Five Ceramica Chronographs, limited to ten pieces each, mark the first stage of Rado’s collaboration with designer Jasper Morrison. New packaging in the Spring of 2008 and a new watch in 2009 are the next steps. Technical and precise. The Ceramica Chronograph Limited Edition featuresnew dials and proportions. The three counters, as always like three subtle random comets, have been redesigned and highlighted in gold, as all the other details on the dial. The minute indexes emphasize the highly graphic character of the model and form a rounded square towards the corners. Scarcely emerging from the case, the pushers signal the functions of this watch and are perfectly integrated into the profile of this model. Standing out: the golden crown matching each dial. As for the legendary ceramic, an innovate new development: matt appearance and exceptionally dense color, offer a striking contrast to the radiance of the gold and the brilliance of the black metalized crystal.

The packaging of this exceptional collection, also designed by Jasper Morrison, is made of black leather and has no visible stitching. Simple and pure. The chemical symbol representing the gold alloy of the model contained in the box: AuPd, Au2N, Au3N, Au4N or Au5N - is heat-stamped on the top surface. Refinement of matching tones, revealing more day after day - conceived to respect the product it protects. The watch is placed in the box as if on a wrist. The closure - ritualizing the moment of discovery.

Maurice Lacroix- Miros Sport

By far the most sportiest model in the celebrated Miros collection, the chronograph Miros Sport certainly lives up to its name. It epitomizes everything one would expect of a modern, multi-functional timepiece. It features a stop mechanism and records time intervals in a 30-minute and a 10-hour counter. The small seconds display near the “3” completes the balanced auxiliary dial threesome. A practical large date display at 12 o’clock is extremely easy to make out, thanks to the generously dimensioned display of the date in two adjacent windows. The clear tachymeter scale on the aluminum bezel in yellow or black becomes the special feature of this classic yet sporty chronograph.

Despite its sporty feel, the Miros Sport retains an emphatically classic design. The dial in black, silver or in black with yellow numerals for small seconds and date and yellow seconds hands is subtle, striking features are the index marks with luminous dots for the hours and the luminous, generously proportioned hands. The intricate hours ring decoration reveals this model’s affiliation with the Miros collection. The aluminum bezel is clearly silhouetted against the otherwise reduced case. The emphasis lies on two buttons for the chronograph functions and screwed-in crown, which are connected by a slightly curved pin. The case flows seamlessly into the stainless steel link bracelet, which has a more sporty look for the Miros Sport and was given a smooth folding clasp. The strap comes in either stainless steel or in innovative, genuine vulcanized rubber with a discreet Maurice Lacroix logo.

Rado Ceramica White

In 1989, with innovative material and daring design, the Ceramica by Rado became the first entirely ceramic watch, expressing the concept of integration of form in a completely different way. It represents a definitive statement of the times and trends. Irrefutable. Indomitable. An icon. Today reinterpreted, it becomes the Ceramica White, a fully white transformation, taking the idea of continuity to the extreme. The fusion of contours is complemented by the uniformity of color. Rectangular, the dial merges with the crystal, which merges with the case, which merges with the bracelet. The watch becomes a jewel. Fluid and monochrome. The dial is immaculate. Just four index diamonds and a date at six o’clock. Fine hands leave their silver trace under the sapphire crystal, enameled in white for the first time. Another innovation.

On a further variation of the dial, the indexes and the hands become luminescent and applique Arabic numerals indicate four, eight and twelve o’clock. Each variation of the Ceramica White – Jubilé or Sport – is available in two sizes. Highly refined and sophisticated, the Ceramica White by Rado makes its mark once again – graphic and contemporary.

Rado True White

White and round. True White stands out, a part of and yet separate from the Rado collection, whose geometric black approach is legendary. The lines of this entirely ceramic watch are perfectly fluid and integrated. Their purity is immediately attractive. In the form of a passionate circle, the dial radiates a milky light. Subtle, unsullied depths underneath the curved sapphire crystal. The bracelet extends the dial in an uninterrupted opaline line. The straight silver silhouette of the hands passes close by the date displayed at six o’clock, delicately surrounded by fourteen diamonds set directly on the dial. A little circle with a thousand white sparkles. This model is also available in a sporty version with an exceptionally uniform monochromatic dial.

Disproportionately large skeleton Arabic numerals with luminous white infill mark the quarter hours. In a third, more playful version of the dial, four diamonds replace the numerals in an arrangement of concentric circles and matching tones. Each variation on the True White theme – Pure Jubilé, Sport and Jubilé – is available in two sizes. Refined vitality and sophisticated simplicity give Rado True White its strength. A watch of white sensuality. Independent. Essential.

Maurice Lacroix- Pontos-GMT

The appeal of the Pontos collection has always been its outstanding aesthetics, mechanical perfection, and extraordinary personality. These watches fascinate sophisticated buyers who demand simplicity, timeless design, and a mechanical movement of the highest quality. The innovative case appeals to goal-oriented people who know that excellent design does not need any conspicuous extras. It is the sum of its fine details that make this watch a harmonious entity: Characteristic for Maurice Lacroix is the stylized M on the protected crown, whose shape has been reduced to a complete minimum. The case and generously curved watchband joints form an intricate unit. With their skilfully understated design, the dials also perfectly match this puristic look. The applied index marks and the displays, marked by applied outlining rings, do their part in contributing to the generous, clear appearance of these watches.

Attractive Functions
The watches of the Pontos collection convince with attractive and interesting additional functions: The classic models feature a date display or date and day of the week displays. Watch lovers who appreciate the extraordinary will be excited about the Pontos Petite Seconde. The generously sized small seconds is a striking design element that accentuates the design awareness of the watch wearer. As its name already reveals, the Pontos Réserve de Marche has a useful power reserve indication. Completely fulfilling the intent of the pure design of the Pontos, this function stands out, yet is designed in a simple manner as a full circle with two outlining rings, with the ring becoming narrower on its left side. Situated between 6 and 8 o’clock, this display also is placed at a prominent location. Inside the circle, a small hand shows how much power is still left in the diligently hand-decorated automatic movement. In its 40 millimetre, round stainless steel case, the Pontos Grand Guichet GMT combines a convenient large date display at 12 o’clock and an auxiliary dial at 6 o’clock for a second time zone. The Pontos Chronographe, which houses in its generous 43 millimetre case the precious Valjoux 7750 calibre, shows precisely stopped time intervals with a 30-minute counter at 12 o’clock and a 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock. Symmetry unusual for chronographs was achieved by leaving off the third auxiliary dial for the small seconds at 9 o’clock in one version of this Pontos

Maurice Lacroix always pays meticulous attention to the inner works of a new watch. Through the crystal caseback, each Pontos permits full view of its movements, e.g. hand-decorated with Côtes de Genève, that work with Swiss precision. The Pontos models are equipped either with an automatic or hand-wound movement (model with small seconds).

Rado Ceramica XL chrono

Completely ceramic. World premiere in 1989. The Ceramica by Rado was ahead of its time in recognizing an exceptional material. Its daring design became a mark of the times, transforming the Ceramica into an icon without rival. A precursor, this model made use of the material as a vehicle for color and created the brand’s black legend. In a contemporary reinterpretation, the collection displays proportions and surfaces that have been reworked, imbuing it with new energy. Intense and monochrome. A dial. A crystal. A case. A bracelet. The one an extension of the other, merging. The fusion of lines and colors makes the watch an object of rare density. Graphic and contemporary.Technology. Energy. The Ceramica by Rado becomes a chronograph. Time made precise. The moment perfected. This fully ceramic model features three counters of varying size and a date window at four o’clock. Subtly unpredictable comets. Circles scattered over the dial expand its black surface to the limit and beyond. The push-pieces governing the chrono functions barely protrude from the case. Perfectly integrated. Omnipresent nonetheless. Innovation. The exceptional opacity of the ceramic contrasts with the brilliance of the metallic black surface of the crystal. Refined sophistication. Irrepressible vitality.

COVER Watches - COVER Co107 «Eye»

A watch for the right moment. The oval case, framed by Swarovski crystals, and the dial embellished with a circle of mother of pearl, reminds of an eye from Egyptian times. The rounded leather strap lies snugly against the wrist. Stainless steel case with mineral glass. ETA quartz movement. Water-resistant up to 30 metres. Swiss Made.

Rado True Black Pure Jubilé

Black. Peaceful. The True Black Pure Jubilé by Rado embodies and adapts the very quintessence of the brand’s design philosophy. Round interpretation of the integration of form, which characterizes it. The dial, the case and the bracelet provide an exceptionally monochrome effect, which further reinforces the blending of the components.Sparkling sobriety for the dial under a curved sapphire crystal. Night of light. Just fourteen diamonds surrounding the date at six o’clock. A small circle of eternity emphasizing the form of the dial.An entirely ceramic model full of sensuality. Profoundly black.

Maurice Lacroix- Masterpiece Réserve de Marche

The new Masterpiece Réserve de Marche moves a useful power reserve indication center stage in the literal sense of the word. Instead of being satisfied with a minor role at the outer edge of the dial, the indication takes up the upper half of the dial’s center on this wristwatch. A semi-circular crescent increases in size from its narrow beginnings at the “9” to greater width at the “3”. A small central hand is responsible for providing information about the energy reserves of the hand-wound movement. As with all of the models in the exclusive Masterpiece Collection with power reserve indication, Maurice Lacroix uses an ingenious differential mechanism for the attractive complication for the Masterpiece Réserve de Marche. This mechanism was specially conceived and developed by Maurice Lacroix and makes it possible to turn the hand in two directions: once to the right when winding the movement with the onion-shaped crown; once to the left when the movement is in function. To counterbalance the dominating power reserve indication, the small seconds hand at the “6” was purposely kept simple.

The ML 109 calibre in the Masterpiece Réserve de Marche is based on the historic Peseux 7001 hand-wound movement. This was not only expanded by a power reserve indication at Maurice Lacroix but also carefully decorated by hand according to strict criteria – for example, the careful swirls of the côtes de Genève or a fine perlage – optimized and refined. And not least, it was equipped with the highest quality components, including a traditional screwed balance, among other things.
The Maurice Lacroix watch dials in solid silver always fascinate connoisseurs, as does the one on the Masterpiece Réserve de Marche. An attractive, rare guilloché pattern decorates the center while clearly shaped, generously sized index marks and Arabic or Roman numerals mark the hours. The classic Breguet hands for hours, minutes and seconds are blued in time-consuming handwork. The stainless steel or stainless steel/pink gold 18K 750 case fits well to the traditional charisma. It retains the since many years beloved and typical Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece form. A strap in high-quality croco leather and a safe, easy to use folding clasp round out the image of this watch which perfectly assumes its place in the Masterpiece Collection.

Maurice Lacroix- Masterpiece Cinq Aiguilles

You are one of those people who, in business and everywhere else, stand out from the crowd. You demonstrate unequaled competence and nurture a distinctly personal style marked by aesthetics and harmony. In fact, you embrace values which have guided the Maurice Lacroix brand name from its earliest beginnings. Year after year the Masterpiece Collection crafted by the acclaimed watchmaker’s state-of-the-art production facilities in the town of Saignelégier nestled in Switzerland’s Jura Mountains brings out mechanical masterpieces with a strikingly distinct character. Somehow they even seem to mark the personality of those who wear them.

When ingenious craftsmen made the earliest wheel clocks, these had only one hand – the hours hand. No one talked about minutes and even seconds at that time. Watches that show the hours, minutes, and seconds as well as the date and day are not that unusual today. Nevertheless, the Cinq Aiguilles by Maurice Lacroix is still something special. The calendar indication is not shown by a digital numbers display but through two additional hands of different designs that sweep across a central ring of analog numerals. This unusual detail lends this Masterpiece its name.
The five-hand watch – in this iteration an exceptional classic design – is one of the reasons why Maurice Lacroix truly has stood for exclusive watches in their most beautiful form for over a decade. In 1997, the master watchmakers from Saignelégier gave this highly regarded timepiece an even more attractive appearance. Where the 1990 Cinq Aiguilles was clearly in the classic style, today it is larger and sportier. The analog day indication is now on the outer edge of the redesigned dial while the date hand has moved towards the centre. The hands are straight and those for hours and minutes, luminous as are the index marks as well. The dial is now available silver-coloured or in black.Admittedly, the question of whether a watch really needs five different central hands is a reasonable one. However, when you consider how easy it is not only to read all ordinary functions but also to find out the date and day, you will come to appreciate the variety of hands and both day and date rings because they afford the watch its unmistakable character. No less important in the effortless reading of all of the indications is the contribution made by the careful design of the solid-silver dial.

All in all this perfect ensemble of case, dial, and hands underscores the extraordinary competence of the house of Maurice Lacroix in the conception, construction, design, and execution of the finest, unmistakable mechanical wrist watches.

The perfect lady’s watch for a cocktail party. The stainless steel strap makes this watch look like a valuable bracelet, the leather strap brings out the twinkle of the Swarovski crystals. Rado New Original Jubilé S

Light and dark go hand in hand and set each other off. The shimmering flow of the bracelet and elliptical brilliance of the case cast a delicate light upon the dark night of the dial. These contrasts give the Rado New Original Jubilé S its power and appeal. Demure and provocative, candid and inscrutable – it loves to be contradictory. Its lines are bold and authentic, yet it remains discrete and mysterious, for in the blackness of the face twinkle tiny diamond stars. Other diamonds round the edge of the crown are hidden momentarily, returning to unveil their charm when suddenly they light and catch the eye. A titanium clasp and the bracelet in satin-finish steel hold a hardmetal case that frames a round, two-colour dial.

Its matt blue centre is ringed by a high-gloss black band set with blue indices and eleven diamonds marking every hour but three, where a date window appears. A small porthole above the six o’clock position reveals a mobile silver anchor, which symbolizes the oscillating mass of this automatic model. The facetted sapphire crystal gives depth to the dark skies, crossed by a delicate milky way, where silver hour and minute hands and the white silhouette of a seconds hand turn. The nice surprise in the detail is the screw-down crown protection set with eight diamonds.

Rado New Original Split-Second Chronograph

The case, a luminous ellipse. The dial, a mysterious circle. The eye is drawn from one to the other, taking pleasure in the contrast. The gentle touch of night gives way to the smooth, frank brightness of the day that flashes from the steel links of a sinuous bracelet on the wrist. The strength and elegant simplicity of this chronograph are the source of its innovative character and authenticity. Forthright and precise, challenging and demanding, it may choose to reveal a thoughtless spontaneity. Subtle, minimal, essentially free of superfluous detail.

The Rado New Original Split-Second Chronograph. Blue. Black. Instantly beautiful. A polished oval hardmetal case and a lithe satin-finish steel bracelet give this watch its glittering, slender profile. Though its look is uncomplicated, it nevertheless houses a split-second chronograph accessed by three pushers. And each second, suspended for a moment in the passage of time, is captured by the metallic heart that beats beneath the sapphire crystal. The darkening twilight of the dial is studded with indices tipped with light; three counters measure the seconds that turn into minutes and hours, and a moving anchor in a porthole represents the oscillating mass of this automatic model. Luminous hands, a titanium clasp and a screw-down crown with crown protection are the finishing details that make all the difference.

The exterior of the watch reflects its inner soul. The case is made of stainless steel or stainless steel/yellow gold 18K 750. True to the principles of Maurice Lacroix, dials and hands have been designed with utmost attention to detail. Good legibility of all functions contributes to overall harmony. Maurice Lacroix- Masterpiece Grand Guichet Dame

Actually, he should have known. He was, after all, an expert as renowned as experienced, who had come to the conclusion that a respect for the taste of the target group was critical. Yet he considered the preference for wrist watches as an aberration of female taste, and was of the opinion that the wrist was with certainty the most unsuitable site for a watch. The year was 1916. Those scolded in this way at that time saw things in a very different light, by the way. Two years earlier already, “Femina” magazine had polled women about their opinions about wrist watches. The feed¬back had been mostly positive. The editors received a total of no less than 4,350 responses. 3,437 of them were for “unrestrictedly positive”. 480 of the readers were still undecided, while only 433 preferred pendant watches to wristwatches.Change of scene. The year is now 2004. No one is doubting any longer that each woman is entitled to the watch she prefers. And the fact that a watch belongs on the wrist is no longer worth talking about. Yet where mechanics and complications are concerned, women are often still short-changed, even at the beginning of the 21st century.

This is not true where watches by Maurice Lacroix are concerned. This relatively young, yet out-standingly dynamic watch brand has given special attention to women since its inception in 1975. Maurice Lacroix has been able to meet contemporary tastes since then – either with elegant quartz movement models or expressive timepieces with classic mechanical movements. After the immense success of the Phase de Lune Dame launched in 2003 – the first model in the select Masterpiece Collection designed exclusively for women – the Grand Guichet Dame now epitomizes the efforts by Maurice Lacroix to continuously expand the line of attractively shaped, feminine ladies’ wrist watches with sophisticated, helpful complications. A date display is practically indispensable today and therefore must be easy and clear to read. To this end, Maurice Lacroix’ watchmakers more than doubled the date display area for the Grand Guichet Dame. Two discs display first and second digits of the current date on generous, adjacent dial sections. A very intelligent construction of the 42-piece mechanism prevents meaningless displays, such as, for example, dates like the 32nd or 39th of a month. It also ensures that the seconds hand rotates near the “6”, not in the centre. These small seconds provide the perfect, optical counterpoint to the large date display, balancing the dial harmonically. An extremely reliable Swiss automatic movement ensures accurate timing and requires only regular movement from the wearer. This ensures that the main spring is always wound and ready to go.

The advanced technology of the new Grand Guichet Dame is complemented by enjoyment of its technical perfection that can be observed through the caseback with sapphire crystal. The movement is lovingly decorated and finished by hand. Even where it is not usually seen by its wearer: below the dial. Bright blue steel screws and an artful skeleton rotor are outstanding features of this watch.
Naturally, the internal values of the Grand Guichet Dame are matched by external features of the same level of quality, which are particularly appreciated by today’s sophisticated women who desire perfection. The fine, round case with elegantly curved strap joints and the eye-catching onion crown is conducive to creating a long, intensive relationship with the wearer. Five cabochons of genuine sapphire or yellow gold 18K 750 dot the “i”, 50 Top Wesselton diamonds on the lunette make this watch a valuable piece of jewellery. The dial, with a carefully guillocheed centre and small seconds display has an hours ring of genuine mother-of-pearl, generous Arabic numerals, and six diamonds. The Grand Guichet Dame is able to perfectly match any occasion with its superbly finished straps from crocodile leather in black, light blue, and pink. If women only could have known this in 1914! Surely, none of them would have voted against the wrist watch then. After all, where would you find a woman who would give back such a watch?

MONTBLANC GRAND TOURBILLON HEURES MYSTÉRIEUSES

Special events deserve suitable recognition. In celebration of the 150th anniversary of the founding of the manufacture Minerva and the inauguration of its renovated headquarters in Villeret, Montblanc announces the presentation of the new Grand Tourbillon Heures Mystérieuses from the Montblanc Collection Villeret 1858. The name alone will be an indication to watch connoisseurs of what can be expected of this jubilee model and spark their curiosity as to what else there is to come.
The Grand Tourbillon Heures Mystérieuses timepieces in the Montblanc Collection Villeret 1858 will be available in even more limited editions than previous models : to be precise, unique versions in platinum and editions of eight in either 18K white or rose gold.

The tourbillon appears at 12 o’clock in a large, drop-size case and comes with a tourbillon bridge in the shape of a horizontal eight, which is a symbol of infinity. In the lower half of the dial, is an equally large time display with a mysterious dial with hovering hour and minute hands.

The watch is yet another demonstration of the expertise, innovative drive and imagination of master watchmakers; qualities that Montblanc will continue to preserve and cultivate through the Institut Minerva de Recherche en Haute Horlogerie.

Parmigiani Fleurier Tondagraph

The Tondagraph is celebrating two major new features : its grande complication, unprecedented since the creation of the Fleurier brand, and its new case, with more pronounced classic curves.

Let’s take its mechanism first. Combining the beauty of the Tourbillon with the technical function of the Chronograph, the Tondagraph model (Calibre PF 354) has joined the highly exclusive domain of Parmigiani Fleurier’s Haute Horlogerie collections, the fruit of tens of essential trades working on a manufactured piece.
Finally, its case. Its round shape has been redesigned to provide space and openings. Now incorporating a bezel, it offers greater expression for the dial’s time indications. The lugs so characteristic of the Parmigiani style stand out as a final signature of its elegance.

Piaget Polo 30th Anniversary Edition

1979 was a momentous year in the history of Piaget. Inspired by the elegance that reigned in polo clubs, the company chose this year to create a new style of timepiece sculpted in gold. Adopted by stars, it was soon to become a legendary object. Playing on the complete integration between the bracelet and case and on alternating polished and satin-brushed surfaces, the original design elevated this model to the pinnacle of prestigious watchmaking. With Piaget Polo, the brand created not only a watch that was a symbol of the times, but also a new way of wearing all-gold timepieces which was at once refined and casual. The Piaget Polo loved to surprise and appeal. In the 1980s, under the leadership of Yves G. Piaget, the brand associated its name to the world of polo.

Keen to promote this extreme sport that reflected the brand’s values - boldness, rigour and precision - it played a central role in the endorsement of polo at Palm Beach by sponsoring the World Cup to which it lent its name. Piaget also brought its glamour and sense of generosity to a team of cinema and television stars, the “Chukkers for Charity”, who battled under the Piaget banner to raise funds. In 2001, the silhouette of the Piaget Polo watch was updated and its dial embellished with larger numerals and a date indicator at 6 o' clock, confirming its avant-garde character. Five years later, the collection was equipped with the new-generation, self-winding 800P calibre and the exceptional Piaget Polo Tourbillon Relatif, fitted with the 608P movement. The first mechanical chronograph movement to be designed, developed and produced by the Piaget Manufacture de Haute Horlogerie, the 880P calibre joined the collection in 2007 incorporated into a white- and pink-gold model. For 2009, the brand has chosen titanium to interpret its iconic model in a sporty version: the Piaget Polo FortyFive.

To celebrate 30 years of this emblematic collection, Piaget is launching five new anniversary versions in 2009. Remaining faithful to the design of the 1979 Piaget Polo, the two white-gold, diamond-studded Piaget Polo models recapture the design of the historical dials and reveal their precious character without ostentation. The large model is driven by a hand-wound Manufacture Piaget 534P mechanical movement while the ladies’ version beats to the rhythm of a Piaget 690P quartz movement.

The two versions are available in a limited series of 150 numbered timepieces. The other three anniversary editions recall the alternation of gold colours on the case and bracelet. On these new Piaget Polos, the 18 carat white-gold/pink-gold case and satin-brushed bezel are highlighted by polished gadroons, which are characteristic of this range. The large models are driven by a hand-wound Manufacture Piaget 800P mechanical movement, while the ladies’ version features a gem-set bezel and a 690P quartz movement. These versions come in a limited series of 300 numbered timepieces.

PIAGET “Limelight Paradise” Collection

Piaget has found its paradise. “Limelight Paradise”, the new Piaget collection, leads us into a luxurious, crystal-clear, fragrant, colourful and festive universe. Watches and jewellery express the beauty of this magical world. Piaget has created one of the most fascinating collections ever on universally appealing themes evoking the world of sailing, warm seas and tropical flowers. The adventure begins aboard a yacht.

Caressed by trade winds, gently rocked by waves and guided by the current, you can almost glimpse the white sandy beaches in the distance. This enchanting lagoon captures the gaze with a kaleidoscope of vivid colours: blue, turquoise, green and mauve. Majestically greeted by underwater fauna and flora, you nonchalantly cast anchor. On the island, the gentle rustling of the leaves is an irresistible invitation to explore the surroundings. At the heart of this luxuriant vegetation, butterflies flit lightly among frangipani flowers.

Piaget Polo Tourbillon Relatif
Maritime knots and ropes pay vibrant tribute to the sailing world, whether highlighted by a flurry of diamonds or subtly recessed into the very structure of the jewellery. An indispensable companion for any seagoing explorer, the compass is featured on the dial of the Piaget Polo Tourbillon Relatif. Rather than showing the direction to follow, its compass indicates the hours.

The magnificent grand feu enamelled blue dial is highlighted by the profiles engraved with sails and boats involved in a regatta. Equipped with Calibre 608P, a mechanical hand-wound flying tourbillon movement, this watch once again encapsulates Piaget’s determination to place technical expertise in the service of aesthetics.

Suspended from the tip of the minute hand, the carriage of this flying tourbillon appears to be disconnected from the base mechanism driving it, naturally concealed below the dial. The hours are read off on a central disc, while the minute hand carries the flying tourbillon carriage with it as it spins. A majestic sailboat engraved on the case-back makes one feel like setting sail for far horizons, gliding on the whim of the sea breezes…

A desire to dip into the deep blue of Southern seas…
Mint-green tourmaline, azure-blue aquamarine, blue-tinted beryl, vivid amethyst: the spectacular graded shades of tropical waters, atolls and lagoons are echoed in a submarine world in which necklaces, rings, earrings and watches offer a stunning expression of this dreamy paradise.

Tiny diamond fish swim around a 24-carat beryl, while a necklace features a magnificent tourmaline nestling in a white gold coral reef: an open invitation to immerse oneself in the multicoloured secrets of the underwater world. Meanwhile, the pendant and earrings are graced with entire colonies of diamonds forming a coral-like motif. The dial of the timepieces is enlivened by the shimmering reflections of white mother-of-pearl following the rhythm of days and nights and graced with luminescent branches. This microscopic and mysterious life literally seems to inhabit each creation.
