Vacheron Constantin Overseas Small Model Date Self-Winding

Vacheron Constantin dedicates a new watch model to ladies from its sporty Overseas collection. The new Overseas Small Model Date Self-Winding watch is a perfect alliance between jewellery making and horology techniques. This ladies’ watch is notably distinguished by its 36 mm-diameter case in 18-carat pink gold and by its mechanical self-winding movement.

The case, the design, and the ergonomics of this new Overseas model – which retains all the identifying characteristics of the collection – are specifically intended for women. Its outstanding elegance is matched by its technical complexity, as embodied in the remarkably slender 18-carat pink gold case housing a soft iron antimagnetic protective cage – a collection signature feature – ensuring the smooth running of the mechanical movement. This new Overseas Small Model Date Self-Winding watch also picks up other classic themes of the collection, such as the Maltese Cross inspired bezel and the links of the 18-carat pink gold bracelet inspired by the same motif.
Water-resistant to 5 bar (approximately 50 metres), the refined case of this Overseas timepiece is fitted with a solid screw-in case-back adorned with the Overseas medallion bearing the engraving of the famous Amerigo Vespucci three-masted sailing vessel.
In response to women’s ever growing attraction to fine mechanical watchmaking, the slender case houses Calibre 1226, a 143-part mechanical self-winding movement. It beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, drives the hours, minutes, central seconds and date functions, and ensures an approximately 40-hour power reserve.

The perfectly readable sunburst satin-brushed silver-toned dial is a blend of elegance and understatement, enlivened by the collection’s characteristic hands coated with a white luminescent substance for the hours and minutes. The date window at 3 o’clock and the 18-carat pink gold applied Arabic numerals represent distinctive new features of this ladies’ variation and an eloquent expression of horological classicism, while the bezel delicately set with 88 brilliant-cut diamonds (approx. 0.36 cts) lends an additional touch of femininity.
The new Overseas Small Model Date Self-winding from Vacheron Constantin comes in two versions: one with an 18-carat pink gold bracelet, and the other with a taupe-coloured leather strap complete with an additional vulcanised grey rubber strap. A triple-blade, double-pusher folding clasp in 18-carat pink gold featuring a polished half Maltese Cross ensures optimal security and comfort on the wrist.

Vacheron Constantin Overseas Chronograph Perpetual Calendar “Boutiques Exclusive” Limited Edition

This year, Swiss watch manufacture Vacheron Constantin is enriching its Overseas collection by introducing the Overseas Chronograph Perpetual Calendar “Boutiques Exclusive” model. This original perpetual calendar chronograph is equipped with the remarkable Calibre 1136 QP within a steel case enhanced by a titanium bezel. The Overseas Chronograph Perpetual Calendar “Boutiques Exclusive” is issued in an 80-piece limited edition exclusively reserved for the 27 Vacheron Constantin boutiques around the world.

The sporty Overseas collection is the only line of watches from Vacheron Constantin to offer steel models. Overseas line was enriched in 2009 with entirely grey-clad versions combining steel and titanium and featuring slate grey dials teamed with grey alligator leather or rubber straps. In 2011 this line welcomes an exclusive model associating two major complications: the chronograph and the perpetual calendar.
At the heart of this exceptional model beats the 228-part Calibre 1136 QP, a mechanical self-winding movement – as one would expect from a sports watch – beating at 21,600 vibrations per hour and endowed with an approximately 40-hour power reserve. In addition to the hours, minutes and small seconds at 6 o’clock, Calibre 1136 QP powers the chronograph function as well as the perpetual calendar indicating the day of the week, the date, and the month on a 48-year cycle, complete with leap-year display and moon phases.
This newcomer to the Overseas collection comes in a generous 42 mm case that is water-resistant to 15 bar (approximately 150 metres). The collection’s emblematic bezel inspired by the Maltese Cross is made in titanium – as are the pushpiece guards – while the steel case incorporates a soft iron cage protecting the mechanical movement from magnetic fields. Another signature feature of the Overseas collection, the screw-down caseback features a medallion engraved with the famous Amerigo Vespucci three-masted sailing ship.

Admirably complementing the chromatic theme of the steel case and titanium bezel, the sunburst satin-brushed slate grey dial is distinguished by 18-carat white gold applied hour-markers highlighted by a white luminescent substance. A first for Vacheron Constantin, the use of yellow to underscore the three hands relating to the chronograph function lends an additional dynamic touch and guarantees excellent readability.
The Overseas Chronograph Perpetual Calendar “Boutiques Exclusive” is delivered with two straps: one in black vulcanised rubber and the other in dark grey alligator leather. A triple-blade double-pusher folding clasp guarantees secure and comfortable wear for the owner of this exceptional model. Issued in an 80-piece limited edition.

GRAHAM-LONDON Silverstone Tourbillograph Full black

GRAHAM-LONDON Silverstone Tourbillograph Full black is a perfect companion for those who take risks and created to with stand extreme conditions. This timepiece is specified as an automatic column-wheel chronograph tourbillon.

The tourbillon complication inside this timepiece is an automatic one minute Tourbillon developed in the vein of the GRAHAM DNA with a powerful design and a rich technological content. The domed sapphire crystal offers unique full size dimensions (42 mm opening) and a see-through view on the beauty of the mechanism. The 48 components of its skeleton cage interlace in layers and has been reduced to an extreme weight of only 0.485 grams. This construction, called cintré integrates the Tourbillon into the complex chronograph movement while using a large diameter balance wheel.

Jointly developed with Manufacture La Joux-Perret, it is the result of a 4 year R&D program leading to two patents. Altogether, the engineering know how has lead to doing away with the intrinsic weaknesses of tourbillons. First its fragility. The reduced number of components, lightness and double-bridge construction guarantee stability and perfect rigidity. It is a shockproof Tourbillon. Second, the sensitiveness to magnetism is also reduced through the systematic use of iron free components in the Tourbillon cage. The Tourbillograph calibre is equipped with a high quality chronometric escapement beating at 28’800 A. The Tourbillograph combines a Tourbillon and a column-wheel chronograph.

This movement offers at the same time the beauty of one of the best see-through Tourbillon cage and the resistance of a military watch. It is the only automatic Tourbillon that has successfully passed the Chronofiable test till date, the gold standard in the watch industry.

Aesthetically, the Silverstone Tourbillograph Full Black is a sophisticated and classy racing instrument. The 48mm thin steel case is PVD-coated with black titanium carbide. So is the bezel. Its black dial and polished rhodiated numerals play with the light. Sometime visible, sometimes invisible.

Every single part of the movement is decorated and blackened with rhodium. The oscillating mass with a ceramic ball bearing wheel, the balance, the double bridge, the coq, are all black. A perfection even pushed to such details as having a fine regulating system with a micro metric screw on the balance wheel to optimize its adjustment and avoid variations. Even the column wheel alternates black and polished.

Suggested retail price for GRAHAM-LONDON Silverstone Tourbillograph Full black is 47'850 CHF. Silverstone Tourbillograph models are also available in red gold (18K) (white or black dial) or Black PVD and red gold (18K) (black carbon dial).

Bell & Ross BR Twelve O’Clock Limited Edition

Swiss luxury watch maker Bell & Ross is rewriting the rules of traditional watchmaking by launching the BR Twelve O’Clock,an objet d’art horology creation based on an artistic interpretation of a disk-based display developed by the brand.

The BR Twelve O’Clock is a clock made up of 12 display watches.
• Each watch has a number on it corresponding to an hour of the day: 1, 2, 3, etc. up to 12.

• Each number is drawn on three concentric disks. As the disks rotate, the numbers become fragmented making them illegible. You must wait until the disks are correctly positioned to be able to read the time.

• The exact hour is indicated by the only watch that displays a number in a
vertical position.

For example at three o’clock, the third watch shows the number 3, while the images on the other watches remain fragmented. At four o’clock, the number 4 is shown on the fourth watch and so on. As time passes, the twelve watches create an abstract picture with a fascinating movement.
The twelve watches use the disk-based display technology developed by Bell & Ross. The display is in the form of three separate concentric disks on single plane. As they rotate, an adjustment to the nearest micron ensures that the disks are constantly parallel.

The technical challenge lies in the design and production of the three disks and in the accuracy of their assembly. It requires all the expertise of the master watchmakers. The twelve automatic watches come in a box with twelve battery-powered winders with push button operation. This system guarantees a constantly changing montage.

In modern- day society, where every second is accounted for, the Twelve O’Clock timepiece is a demonstration of our inability to control the sands of time. The animated display that gives the time in a split second is the perfect illustration of the elusive nature of time.

With just 12 pieces produced, the BR Twelve O’Clock looks at time in a totally new way. A truly animated objet d’Art, its complex mechanism and its continually changing image will not fail to amaze. It will delight both watchmaking enthusiasts and collectors of art.

De Bethune DB28T (Tourbillon)

Launched in early 2011, the De Bethune DB28 model now comes in a tourbillon version. The external features remain same: Dedicated shape of the case, crown at 12 o’clock, the dial that acts as a window onto the movement, polished and matt surface, the delta-shaped polished steel main plate and De Bethune “stripes” combined with a chapter ring and lastly the “floating lugs”, all remains same that of DB 28 model. The case is entirely made in titanium. The spherical moon at 6’ o clock is replaced by the De Bethune tourbillon, plus the power reserve indicator.

The DB28T is powered by Calibre DB 2009 a mechanical hand‐wound movement which is equipped with an ultralight 0.18 gram silicon/titanium tourbillon. De Bethune thus undertook to rethink the tourbillon around this new wristwatch dynamic. The laws of physics are implacable: in order to compensate for the disorganized violence of wrist movements, the carriage must be as light as possible with as high a frequency as possible and a maximum rotation speed for a minimum mass and inertia.

Thanks to new technologies, De Bethune has therefore created a 0.18 g silicon-titanium tourbillon in a carriage spinning once every thirty seconds at its axis, and a balance oscillating at a frequency of 36,000 vibrations per hour. This tourbillon is the lightest on the market (classic counterparts weigh four times as much) and comprises 50 parts, of which the lightest weighs less than 0.0001 grams and the “heaviest” 0.0276 grams.

Harry Winston Midnight Collection

The new Harry Winston Midnight collection embodies the quintessence of watchmaking without flourishes, imbued with a sense of authenticity and refinement. This collection is dedicated to all those who are looking for a watch as a daily companion with an aesthetic that intuitively represents authentic luxury and sophistication.

Their svelte cases crafted in white or rose gold match the spirit of this collection of which elegance is the very core. The iconic Harry Winston arches have been subtly reworked and refined so as to merge seamlessly into its smooth outlines. The overall visual equilibrium highlights the time indications and endows them with a rare breed of distinction. This collection is composed of three models, including one specifically destined for women.

The new masculine variations on the Midnight theme adopt a 42 mm case. The simple version - Midnight Automatic - is equipped with a self-winding movement driving two delicately beveled traditional hands, along with a date display at 6 o’clock. The hour-markers opt for the classic baton shape, while the Harry Winston insignia appears at 12 o’clock.

The big date version - Midnight Big Date - also powered by a self-winding movement, is entirely in tune with the spirit of existing Midnight watches. Its black or silver-toned dial features a circular guilloché pattern that plays with contemporary design in order to accentuate the aesthetic and technical refinement of the watch. The sunburst satin-brushed hour circle is excentered at 12 o’clock and rimmed by a slender gold ring that highlights the graceful dance of its hands, while a “porthole” at 6 o’clock reveals the twin-aperture date display. A single diamond is perched above the large date, reminding connoisseurs of Mr. Winston’s habit of keeping one of his gems in his pocket for the sheer pleasure of rolling between his fingers.

For ladies, the Midnight watches come in 32 and 39 mm diameters - Midnight Midsize and Midnight Large - either delicately set or unadorned. Exquisitely feminine and unostentatious, their very sobriety becomes their finest embellishment. The dainty bezel forms a slim border emphasizing the natural elegance of the watch.

The Harry Winston arches are discreetly present facing the crown. The slender and graceful hour and minutes sweep across a rosé champagne colored dial that shimmers with the subtle glow of four hour-markers underscored by brilliant-cut diamonds. In the gem-set version, the extremely pure aesthetic is a lit up bezel paved with brilliant-cut diamonds.

Clearly intended for men and women for whom elegance is a daily way of life, the new Harry Winston Midnight collection reflects the ethos of a manufacturer that focuses on essentials, sublimating each of its creations by an unmistakably recognizable design and a decidedly contemporary touch.

HAUTLENCE HL2 Collection

After three years of research and development in the production facilities of HAUTLENCE under utmost secrecy, now the La Chaux de Fonds based luxury watch brand unveils its novelty timepiece: HL2. This new timepiece is a revolutionary creation in the world of watchmaking that breaks away from the mechanisms of the past without forgoing historic regulation methods.

HL2 Collection features futuristic construction and the way in which it delivers the time make it unique. Thanks to the integration work of the manufacture calibre and to deep reflection, the shape of the gear teeth has been optimised, higher-quality oscillators have been created and the energy consumption of the various complications has been regulated. Through effort and constant research, HAUTLENCE is today able to unveil the second stage of its vision of innovative time display.

This mechanical masterpiece displays the hours in an aperture, on a 12-link chain moving in a controlled, regulated manner every 60 minutes in 4 seconds with out shocks. In this timepiece HAUTLENCE has separated the energy necessary for chronometry from that necessary for animation, with the addition of a second dedicated barrel to the complication. This was to obtain an optimal chronometric result without disturbance from the energy required for the complication and animation of the display, in a system that compensates for the effects of gravity. This is initiated by the return to zero of the retrograde minutes, with a connecting-rod, sensor and spiral system (like the HL model) which frees the energy of the barrel of the complication. The speed of this barrel is controlled by a speed regulator (at the centre of the retrograde minutes). As for the chain, it is driven every hour by the barrel of the complication at the passing of the hour. It acts on the chain via the speed regulator, which ensures the gentleness of the movement, and via a mechanism that moves it forward one step every hour. This advancement of the chain then turns, by 60 degrees, the main plate that supports the regulating organ and some of the chronometry wheels. The operation has no torque effect on the chronometry.

This new milestone in terms of time display places HAUTLENCE among the brands bringing a new dynamic to the watchmaker’s art by breaking new ground in terms of display, giving the profession a new, three-dimensional vision of time.

The regulating organ is a set of gears that change position (60 degrees) every hour (like the tourbillon, which does this continuously). This new milestone in terms of time display places HAUTLENCE among the brands bringing a new dynamic to the watchmaker’s art by breaking new ground in terms of display, giving the profession a new, three-dimensional vision of time. Spectacularly architectured around a retrograde minute, the jumping hour comprises a 12-link chain triggered by a connecting rod system identical to those found in HL collections. An ingenious system, unique in the world of wristwatches, allows the whole ensemble to be shifted in a controlled manner thanks to a speed regulator that preserves the components from any unwanted shocks caused by the workings of the timepiece. It features a dedicated barrel, the sole purpose of which is to provide enough energy for the entire system. And in order to create a cinematic spectacle, HAUTLENCE has ensured that the movement of the chain allowing the hour to be changed in the aperture is accompanied by the 60º rotation of the regulating organ. This rotary motion taking place every 60 minutes allows the effects of gravity on the regulating organ to be statistically compensated for should the watch remain immobile.

Module 1: “Jumping” regulating organ
The HL2 is a bold watch designed around an ingenious mechanism allowing the regulating organ to be rotated together with some of the gears, once an hour. Driven by the movement of the hour every 60 minutes, the regulation group comprising the balance, the balance spring of the lever and the lever wheel but also the second and third wheels will occupy a new position, different from the previous one by precisely 60º. Finally, this ensemble performs a rotation on an axis parallel to that of the wrist.

This original, sophisticated construction allows the regulating organ to change position every hour. Like on a classic tourbillon, this rotating movement allows the balance to occupy all positions successively. Through this process, an average rate of vertical positions is obtained, the impact of which is therefore a clear improvement in the timing of the instrument. Put simply, the regulating group corrects the errors of equilibrium of the balance-spring system, the result of which is a statistical cancellation of the negative effects of gravity on the precision of an immobile watch.

Module 2: Hour with Jumping Chain
With this new watchmaking creation, HAUTLENCE has chosen to emphasise the aesthetics by creating a mechanical display system that allows the time to be read differently. Exploiting innovative mechanical solutions borrowed from other industrial fields, the HL2 has risen to the challenge of reinventing watch complications. The entire design of this new-generation timepiece revolves around the exploitation of a sort of chain, each link of which is moved forward hour by hour through successive jumps, the current hour being presented in an aperture. This entire fine mechanism is driven by a speed-reduction train that accompanies the rotation for 4 seconds in order to protect the hour chain and the regulating organ from any shock from blows or butting. Every 60 minutes, the rotation of this mechanical ensemble therefore allows the wearer of the watch to observe the changing of the numerals indicating the hours in the aperture for those few seconds that the mechanical sequence lasts.

Module 3: Speed regulator
In order to successfully master the rotation of the chain and the simultaneous rotation of the regulating organ, the energy stored in the barrels has been controlled by a set of ingenious mechanisms. The energy in the barrel dedicated to the complication is delivered to the mechanism once that of the retrograde minutes has returned to zero. Through the intervention of its connecting rod serving as a sensor and to the star wheel, the complication group initiates a rotation of a single turn thanks to a cam plus slide system. In order to master and optimise the kinetic energy present, an inertia speed-regulator has been fitted in order to limit the speed of rotation of the ensemble for four seconds. As the mechanical sequences follow one another, it is therefore possible for the chain to move gently in order to display the next hour without any collisions that could be detrimental to the correct functioning of the watch.

Module 4: Automatic Winding
HAUTLENCE's in house developed self-winding mechanical movement features a high-performance gear system with an optimised gear-tooth shape. Based on a shrewd collaboration begun with Philippe Ruedin, HAUTLENCE’s external engineering consultant for many years, the idea of sharing the development of an “open-source” calibre has allowed many independent brands to have at their disposal components from a common base, which may be personalised as desired. This mechanical base, called ASXP 0300 in watchmaking jargon, has been thoroughly reworked in the HAUTLENCE design offices in order to create a new kind of calibre.

The complication’s high-energy needs forced the team of designers to re-think the calibre, giving it a self-winding mechanism in order to supply the main barrel, which serves to maintain the energy of the balance, and the second barrel, which serves to drive the complication. As one can imagine, it is continuously reloaded thanks to the presence of a gear train connected to the finishing gear train. Furthermore, in order to prevent the watch from stopping unexpectedly, HAUTLENCE has added a power-reserve indicator to its new model in order to check the charge level, designed to function for 45 hours without movement of the rotor.

Luminox Steel Colormark 38mm

The new Luminox Steel Colormark 38mm watch is dedicated women who enjoy an active lifestyle. For Spring 2011, Luminox extends its line of tough yet elegant watches for women with the Steel Colormark 38mm Series 7250, a feminine interpretation of the popular Colormark series. The six watches in the collection combine beautiful satin-finished steel surfaces with refined details such as mother-of-pearl dials and attractive pink or blue numerals echoed by the contrast stitching of the black leather straps.

They also exhibit all the hallmarks of the Luminox line: Swiss-made mechanisms for perfect functionality, strong materials and solid construction that stand up to everyday knocks, outstanding 200-meter water-resistance ratings, and proprietary Luminox Light Technology (LLT), which glows constantly for up to 25 years to illuminate the essential elements of the display and provide reliable legibility in low-light conditions.

LLT employs micro gas lights mounted on the watch hands, at each hour on the dial, and on the bezel. The system is self-powered and never needs to be “charged” the way typical photoluminescent compounds do. An LLT dial conquers the darkness so its owner can always read the time. The Steel Colormark 38mm will look stylish day or night and glows continuously.

Luminox F-35 Lightning II Flight Calculation/Chronograph

The all-new 45mm F-35 Lightning II Flight Calculation/Chronograph premieres in 316L stainless steel and is likewise powered by a precise and reliable 13-jewel Ronda quartz movement. The watch’s black textured dial features bright orange hands and dial elements. Its 1/10-second chronograph is like that of the F-22 Raptor watch, with central seconds hand and concentric minutes and hours totalizer at 9 o’clock. Its standout feature, however, is its 1/10-second indication, which takes the form of a semicircular counter with bicolor propeller hand that reads against a two-color scale at the bottom of the dial just above the big date display.

A sapphire crystal with antireflective coating protects the dial, and the caseback depicts the F-35 Lightning II aircraft and the Lockheed Martin logo. The timepiece is attached to a solid link steel bracelet with signature Luminox buckle or black padded leather strap with orange contrast stitching and signature Luminox buckle.

F-35 Lightning II Flight Calculation/Chronograph is water-resistant to 200 meters and features Luminox Light Technology, a proprietary system of self-powered micro gas tubes, mounted on the hands and markers that glow continuously for up to 25 years, so that the dial can always be read, even in low-light conditions. Swiss Made.

Luminox F-22 Raptor Flight Calculation/Chronograph

The 44mm diameter F-22 Raptor Flight Calculation/Chronograph is built of solid blackened titanium, a material that is both strong and light. A 13-jewel Ronda quartz movement supports a roster of useful functions. The 1/10-second chronograph times events of up to 12 hours with 1/10-of-a-second precision. It is controlled by lever-style blackened titanium start/stop and reset pushers.

Chronograph times are displayed via a central seconds hand, concentric minutes and hours totalizers in a subdial at 9 o’clock, and a 1/10-second subdial at 6 o’clock. Added to this is an easy-to-read big date display and day of the week indication. The dial is surrounded by the tachymeter and slide rule bezel.

An antireflective sapphire crystal covers the dial. The caseback depicts the F-22 Raptor aircraft. The watch comes on either a solid link titanium bracelet or a leather strap with red contrast stripe detail.

F-22 Raptor Flight Calculation/Chronograph is water-resistant to 200 meters and features Luminox Light Technology, a proprietary system of self-powered micro gas tubes, mounted on the hands and markers that glow continuously for up to 25 years, so that the dial can always be read, even in low-light conditions.Swiss Made.

Loiseau 1f4 Grande Sonnerie Complication : World’s first dual automatic Grande Sonnerie complication timepiece with instant dial reversibility

Dominique Loiseau, one of the most talented figures of contemporary horology, presents world’s first dual automatic Grande Sonnerie complication timepiece with instant dial reversibility and 32 functions.

A legendary figure working at the summit of complex horology for more than 30 years, Dominique Loiseau has until now been quietly at work creating remarkable timepieces for the major names of watch industry. Artisan and teacher at the International Museum of Watchmaking in La Chaux-de-Fonds, restorer of collector’s timepieces and automata, he is also the creator of the exceptional pocket watches Renaissance and Capriccio, the Rose des Temps clock, the six Montres de Sables and the Alpha-Omega automaton. In addition, Dominique Loiseau is the inventor of the famed Blancpain 1735 wristwatch. He is clearly an unequivocal and truly authentic horological inventor of an exceptional level, a master watchmaker who has created timepieces of every type of complexity, either as unique pieces or in highly limited editions.

This new Grande complication timepiece was unveiled at this year’s edition of Basel world watch fair. The event witnessed the world premiere birth of a new brand: Loiseau. The new timepiece, named 1f4, represents the culmination of a master watchmaker’s lifetime of accumulated knowledge. As one would expect from a master like Dominique Loiseau, his 1f4 brings major new developments and World Premiere patents to the Grande Sonnerie Complication, never before united within this class of timepiece.
The development of the 1f4 Grande Sonnerie Complication began 6 years ago. To date Dominique Loiseau has dedicated a minimum of 15,000 man-hours towards its realization and production. Designed, executed, finished and assembled within the confines of his atelier located by the shores of the Geneva Lake, using his own machines and hand tools, the 1f4 stands at the very pinnacle of Switzerland’s finest hand made watchmaking traditions and carries the proud designation of “Entièrement manufacturé en Suisse” as this is where it is 100% made.

Many ultra-complicated watches created today often suffer from dials that visually overload the user with an excess of information utilizing numerous hands and indicators. This can easily result in a dial becoming cluttered and illegible as well as inelegant in appearance. For this reason a leading concept that guided Dominique Loiseau during the visual design stage of the 1f4 was to integrate the highest possible number of useful complications onto two separate dials, each of them having its own specific group of complications as well as different characters.

In essence this meant going into uncharted territory with a new approach towards the creation and design of a hitherto unknown and exceptionally complex movement. The sophisticated clarity of the dial layout on each side of the watch is not the result of simply matching two different movements together. Instead, it requires an extremely high level of integration totaling more than 891 discrete parts occupying different layers on both sides of a central base plate. This new layout concept allows the movement thickness to be kept to a minimum and additionally increases many aspects of the movement’s stability.

The first step in the execution of this elegant solution necessitated the development of a World Premiere patent comprising a totally invisible and secret system allowing the watchcase to be completely reversed within seconds, yet requiring no hinges, brackets, frames or any other visually unaesthetic methods to achieve this goal. Even to the initiated, a close inspection of the watchcase of the 1f4 gives nothing away about this mechanical secret that is quietly contained within its case design.

The challenge was to create an exceptionally slim dual automatic Grande Sonnerie Complication. This ingenious system allows the owner of the watch to make full use of all information the 1f4 offers on its elegantly laid out dials showing more than 32 different complications in total. Indeed, one can truly say that the 1f4 represents a landmark for users with the simplicity it brings to complicated watch design on every level, with one dial directed by the split seconds chronograph, the other by the perpetual calendar. Both of these unified horological manifestations are governed by a Flying Tourbillon beating at 21,600 vph as the heart of the Grande Sonnerie Complication movement.
As all connoisseurs will undoubtedly know, the Grande Sonnerie remains unequivocally the most rare and exceptional expression of the watchmaker’s art. Yet rarer is the Grande Sonnerie with an automatic winding system. Nonetheless, the greatest horological, mechanical rarity today is a Grande Sonnerie Complication with a double automatic system utilizing two annular rotors, the only one of its kind in the world, represented by the 1f4, with its total thickness less than 16.64 mm.
Automatic winding systems are absolutely essential to the creation of a beautiful and useful Grande Sonnerie Complication; it is even more important when there are additional complicated functions added to the timekeeping properties of the watch. For example, the Sonnerie, when set to chime automatically in Grande Sonnerie mode, requires vast amounts of energy from the movement. In addition, the energy requirements of the basic functions of the movement need to be respected to insure perfect chronometric results; the same applies to the energy requirements of the other complications the 1f4 Grande Sonnerie Complication offers, such as the split seconds chronograph and the perpetual calendar.
The solution to the problem is not simply the addition of an automatic rotor to the Grande Sonnerie movement; this would result in the watch being far too thick for comfort and would still not solve the issue of energy supply for the other functions the 1f4 movement must fulfill in addition to the Grande Sonnerie. Conversely, this means the addition of two rotors is normally speaking totally out of the question. On a mechanical level however, this remains the only feasible and realistic solution for the creation of a truly functional and unusable complication timepiece of this type.
Dominique Loiseau’ s unique and also patented system places the dual automatic rotors on the outside of the movement, communicating with the movement via an annular-geared ring with internally placed teeth. These internal teeth communicate with a specially designed pinion at the edge of the movement, thus transferring their energy to the winding barrels. In this manner, the entire rotor mechanism does not add thickness of the watch’s movement, keeping the timepiece itself to an astounding 16.64 mm overall, a World Premiere feat of mechanical magic.

Subtle balance between classicism and modernism, the finely proportioned exterior of the 1f4 displays its sturdy character and reminds us of the source of its own name: the famous Henry Edward Bird chess opening.

When asked what chess and Haute Horlogerie have in common, Dominique Loiseau always enjoys explaining all about the creation and development of a complicated mechanism: starting it right from the first move - the famous opening - while having in mind the goal to reach, the experience in specific strategies, the capacity to apply instant tactics against sudden and unexpected difficulties, being creative at all time! In other words, creating and developing the complex movements of a Grande Sonnerie Complication can be paralleled to chess: a mastermind’s game.

The King, the Queen, the Knight and the other 3 pawns of a chess play are evidently the visible and mobile players of the 1f4.

The phenomenal creativity and care that have been brought to the conception of its movement, allowing the 32 functions to be intelligently and logically spread over its 2 dials, brings this 1f4 into a new dimension in wearing and using a complex master timepiece on a daily base.

Its perfect wrist comfort fit has been made possible thanks to the exceptional dimensions of such a fully automatic Grande Sonnerie Complication: thinness of 16.64 mm and a diameter of 45.2 mm.

The complexity of this rare timepiece, made by hand in the Loiseau ateliers, the care brought to its construction and quality in each of its just less than 1,000 pieces in a whole, is such that only 2 units can be produced every year. Each one of them will be stamped with a unique reference combining its vintage year - the year it will be delivered – and its owner 3 digits monogram or lucky number.

According to each collector’s desire the 1f4 can be crafted in solid 990 Platinum or solid 18K yellow, red (5N) or white gold.
