De Bethune Dream Watch IV

At Basel world 2011, De Bethune launched a mechanical fob watch named DBM, an offbeat concept born from the original association between a smartphone and a mechanical pocket watch. In Nov 2011, the watch Manufacture created a high end version of DBM: the De Bethune Dream Watch IV dedicated to the visionary Steve Jobs and paying eloquent tribute to his groundbreaking genius.

Equipped with avant-garde armour in sculpted, specular-polished and bead blasted titanium, the Dream Watch IV simultaneously provides mechanical protection for the phone and electromagnetic protection for the user by reducing the physiological impact of its potentially damaging waves.

This timepiece with its spaceship-inspired design, features shimmering light effects playing across the complex dial architecture and the carefully chosen and fashioned materials. The dark gleam of the hand-polished blued titanium and the sparkling light of the white gold and diamond stars give this creation a unique look.

The depth of this star-lit sky is revealed by the alternating convex outer curves and concave centre curves, featuring a “spine” that draws the gaze naturally towards the silvered hour and minute discs. De Bethune Dream Watch IV is available in a Limited edition of 12 pieces.

CORUM Golden Bridge Automatic ONLY WATCH (Reference 313.150.04/0081 FK11) - Unique Piece

In 2011, CORUM donated a one of a kind Golden Bridge automatic watch for ONLY WATCH action on behalf of research on Duchenne muscular dystrophy. This unique Golden Bridge Automatic presented with a Titalyt-treated titanium case housing the white gold baguette movement with automatic linear winding created by Corum.
The exclusive new Corum Caliber C0313, an automatic linear-winding baguette movement, called for over four years of development and laboratory testing to verify the materials, the frictional forces and the physics of the winding mechanism. Equipped with a linear oscillating weight made in platinum and visible from both sides of the case, along with a slipping spring mechanism, this Golden Bridge movement beats at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour) and is endowed with a 40-hour power reserve. This 194-part caliber is also fitted with a variable-inertia balance – guaranteeing long-term precision – as well as a barrel that is miniaturized so as not to break the smooth vertical lines of the mechanism. The mainplate and bridges are made from 18kt white gold and adorned with a new vertical guilloché motif matching the linear design of the oscillating weight and accentuating the powerful character of this in-line movement.

The complexity of such a movement – Caliber CO313 is one of the rare movements with linear oscillating weight on the market – lies first and foremost in resolving the inertia issues inherent to any movement of this type. Hence the use of a precious and dense metal, in this instance platinum, for this linear oscillating weight weighing 4 grams and which swings 1 cm, before its motion is slowed down or “damped” by a system of gaskets that send it swinging back in the other direction, thereby supplying the movement with all the energy it needs to continue moving.

The principle governing the development of CORUM Caliber CO313 was to offer a floating, linear oscillating weight floating on rails. The latter are made in steel with a PTFE Teflon 1 coating, while the contact zones between the chariot and the rails are made from beryllium copper. This association of materials ensures optimal performance. The energy derived from the winding is transmitted via a rack fixed to the oscillating weight and constantly engaged with a reverser system – ensuring unidirectional winding – equipped with ceramic ball bearings and requiring no lubrication.
This exceptional caliber powering the Golden Bridge Automatic ONLY WATCH is housed within a new tonneau-shaped case in Titalyt-treated titanium, slightly cambered to ensure maximum comfort on the wrist. Featuring matt gray surfaces, it provides superb views of the Golden Bridge automatic movement, not only from both dial and case-back, but also from each of the sides. No less than four antiglare sapphire crystals are thus required to make a case that looks very much like a showcase housing a precious object. The anthracite-colored two-part dial with a red minute track echoing the ONLY WATCH signature codes conceals nothing of the fabulous mechanism and enables observers to admire the linear oscillating weight in motion. The back of the watch is engraved with the Corum logo, and with the ONLY WATCH PIECE UNIQUE 2011 inscription in red.
Fitted with a black crocodile leather strap featuring red stitching and a titanium pin buckle, the new GOLDEN Bridge Automatic ONLY WATCH by Corum was made as a limited edition of one.

CORUM Admiral’s Cup 45 Minute Repeater Tourbillon (Reference 010.102.04/0001 A015) Limited Edition

In 2009, CORUM introduced a Minute Repeater Tourbillon model in red gold(Ref. 010.101.55/0001 A012) to celebrate the 50th anniversary of brand’s iconic collection: the Admiral’s Cup. In 2011, a new Minute Repeater Tourbillon model is presented in a grade 5 titanium case. This material which is ultra-resistant and extremely hard to machine is endowed with the ideal physical properties to ensure perfect resonance of the notes emitted by the striking mechanism. The Caliber CO 010 movement powering the Admiral’s Cup 45 Minute Repeater Tourbillon called for two full years of development that enlisted the talents of around ten of Corum’s finest watchmaking craftsmen.

One of the crucial factors in this equation is the grade 5 titanium case. In addition to its excellent resistance to corrosion – a particularly precious quality within a maritime environment – this alloy was chosen for its excellent acoustic qualities. The pure, crystal-clear sounds emitted are endowed with a rare level of intensity and admirably highlight the complexity of the minute repeater mechanism developed by Corum.
The minutes rack positioned at the heart of the striking system has been inverted compared with traditional minute repeaters in order to give each note added strength and precision. It has also been enlarged to provide a larger angle of lift for each of its teeth, thereby extending the time between notes. The hammers hitting the gongs in order to produce the sound are made from ultra-resistant hardened steel. Fixed to these hammers are counter-springs specially designed to achieve the best possible balance between striking strength and speed. While the minute repeater mechanism is sounding, the overall cadence is regulated by the rotation of an inertial flywheel that is visible on the back of the movement.
The gongs, made from an alloy based on a composition and thermal treatment that remain a jealously guarded secret, have been adjusted to sound the hours on an A note and the minutes on a C sharp. These two notes are no random choice: their specific sequence forms a major third (two tones) creating a more cheerful harmony than that of a minor third (one and a half tones). The overall precision is ensured by a tourbillon with a silicon escapement and lever, a guarantee of both reliability and longevity.

Its hand-wound movement boasts an exceptional 100-hour power reserve. Considerable attention has also been lavished on the elaborate hand-finishing of each surface: the wheels and pinions are circular satin-brushed, the steel parts (and particularly the strike hammers and the tourbillon bridge) are mirror-polished with zinc, the mainplate is circular-grained, and the bridges are decorated with a Côtes de Genève motif.
The creativity and meticulous care devoted to conceiving and crafting Caliber CO 010 are reflected in the exterior of the Admiral’s Cup 45 Minute Repeater Tourbillon. In order to highlight the value of the movement driving this model, Corum has chosen to replace its dial with a smoked PVD-treated sapphire crystal. The latter is even broader than on the previous model and provides stunning views of the intricate minute repeater and tourbillon mechanisms. Its grey-colored treatment, emphasized by the monochrome nautical pennants on the flange, lends this model an understated and yet highly technical nature. The crystal is also engraved with the inscriptions “Corum”, “Minute Repeater” and “Tourbillon”. The 45 mm-diameter case is immediately recognizable thanks to its famous polished satin-finished 12-sided bezel.

The bezel itself also features a hidden function. Mounted on steel runners and delrin blocks to reduce friction, the ingenious bezel of the Admiral’s Cup 45 Minute Repeater Tourbillon serves to wind the minute repeater function by a clever 27-degree clockwise rotation.

Water-resistant to 30 meters thanks to this original system, the Admiral’s Cup 45 Minute Repeater will be issued in a strictly limited production run of 15.

Jaeger-LeCoultre GRANDE REVERSO 976 Guillermo Ceniceros Special Edition

In 2011, Swiss watch manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre created a special edition of its iconic Reverso in association with the renowned Mexican painter, muralist, and engraver Guillermo Ceniceros. The year celebrated the 80th anniversary of the legendary REVERSO model and the manufacture invited renowned artists to create exceptional personalized editions of the Reverso.

The Grande Reverso 976 Guillermo Ceniceros Special Edition born from this remarkable association. The work of art engraved on the case-back of this special edition expresses two different elements: man’s duality from a modernistic perspective in the stainless steel edition, and man in motion in the rose gold edition.
Guillermo Ceniceros was born in 1939 in El Salto, a town in the Mexican state of Durango. He got a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Nuevo Leon and was part of a team assembled by the famous Mexican muralist David Alfaro Siqueiros to create seven of his celebrated murals. In 1969, he received a special award from Mexico’s Ministry of Education and was later nominated for the World Art Contest. His works have received international accolades and are featured in public and private collections all around the world. Ceniceros is a figurative artist whose work focuses on the study of form, space, and the subject’s overall harmony, with particular emphasis on female subjects. He creates his own materials and working implements.

Like the Reverso’s design, the work of Ceniceros has evolved while remaining faithful to itself, flowing through a wide range of theme variations. Itself a precious vessel, the Reverso holds a veritable treasure of passion and watchmaking prowess, essential values it shares with the work of this outstanding Mexican artist, perpetuated in murals such as “Auguries and Premonitions,” a 90-square-foot masterpiece that decorates the building of the Mexican Foreign Trade Bank, or the recently unveiled “Constituent Congress,” in Mexico’s legislative building.
Beneath its classic, timeless appearance, the Grande Reverso 976 conceals a 21st century watch mechanism. Its large variable-inertia balance oscillating at 28,800 vibrations per hour guarantees the exemplary precision of Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 976. The movement allows using the crown to adjust the hour hand backwards or forwards in one-hour increments, without disturbing the accuracy of the minutes and seconds. The Grande Reverso boasts a 30 x 48.5 mm case and its most notable feature is its splendidly simple black dial, embellished with traditional Art Deco numerals and dual finishing. The center rectangle is guilloched and has a Clous de Paris engraving, and the outside features a satin finish. This delicate ornamental interplay is repeated in the small seconds hand located at the 6 o’clock position.
Two Limited Series
The first model of the GRANDE REVERSO 976 Guillermo Ceniceros Special Edition featured a stainless steel case with lacquered engraving on the back and limited to 50 pieces. The second edition has produced in rose gold, featuring a fully engraved case-back, and limited to 10 pieces.

Speake-Marin Spirit Pioneer Limited Edition

Renowned master watch maker Speake-Marin introduces “Spirit Pioneer Limited Edition” model inspired from a vintage military watch that he bought 15 years ago when he was restoring antique pieces in Piccadilly, London.

The Spirit Pioneer exudes a casual, contemporary style with superb legibility and features Speake-Marin’s iconic and instantly recognisable Piccadilly case. And true to its name, Spirit carries a rousing call to action through the uplifting motto – “Fight, Love & Persevere” – engraved on the case-back. Three-dimensional Super-LumiNova provides the hands, indices and 60 minute markers within the white lacquer railroad-track chapter ring with superlative legibility while adding more than a touch of masculine vitality. The dial is completed by,the Speake-Marin signature ‘topping tool’ motif and logo, which are both in white lacquer.

The elegant stainless steel Piccadilly case bears all the hallmarks of Speake-Marin’s meticulous quest to create classical yet durable timepieces, with the characteristic crown and robust lugs guaranteeing that Spirit will well and truly stand the test of time.

Turning Pioneer over, the beauty of the highly polished and hand bevelled ‘topping tool’ mystery winding rotor is the first feature to catch the attention. Roger W. Smith Tourbillon Commission No 4

Roger W. Smith, world renowned master watch maker based in Ramsey (Isle of Man), England has created a unique commission timepiece, the Tourbillon Commission No 4, recently completed for a private client. The piece has a handmade, 42mm case of 18-carat red gold, with a silver hand engine-turned dial created from seven separate sections with hand-engraved numerals and lettering.
It displays hours and minutes, with seconds shown via the sub dial at 6 o’clock. All indicator hands are made of 18-carat red gold; shaped, carved, filed and polished by hand. The date, shown at 3 o’clock, has an 18-carat red gold framed aperture surrounding the hand engraved date numerals. The Up & Down indicator dial radiates from the 10 o’clock position, showing the state of power reserve in the winding barrel, while the classic one-minute tourbillon construction with free-sprung balance and four platinum timing weights utilises the Daniels co-axial escapement located at the back of the movement, its rotation directly driving the sub dial seconds hand on the dial side.
The watch is supplied with an alligator tan strap with an 18-carat red gold, hand-engraved buckle hallmarked in London, and presented in a Linley presentation box of English oak and burr walnut with matching hallmarked sliver plaque marked No. 4.
Smith, 41, who made his first tourbillon pocket watch aged 22, obsesses over every detail, inspired by English watchmaking masterpieces of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Every one of his timepieces is unique, every component fashioned lovingly by hand out of the finest raw materials, from the case, hands and dial through to the movement, including the balance and escapement, and created under his personal supervision at the Roger W Smith workshop in the Isle of Man, an island set in the middle of the Irish Sea now emerging as a world centre of bespoke horological excellence.

Roger W. Smith and Daniels London are the world’s only two bespoke handmade watchmaking companies to employ the George Daniels co-axial escapement, acknowledged as the greatest development in watchmaking for 250 years, a mechanism that delivers unequalled chronometric performance and longevity. But what truly distinguishes a Roger W. Smith timepiece is its unmatched aesthetic, achieved through Smith’s signature passion for excellence and purity of form. Such skilled artistry comes at a price - upwards of £72,500 (+ VAT) - but for that the customer will have been involved in the process from commission to completion and become the owner of a precision work of art that says as much about them as it does about its creator, a timepiece ‘sculpted’ by a master craftsman dedicated to elevating watchmaking to an art form. The Roger W. Smith tourbillon and the Series 2 wristwatch are available by commission only.

About Monégasque Collection
The inaugural edition of Monégasque Collection, first launched in 2011 as a tribute to the spirit of Monte Carlo, consisted of eight models. These models were inspired from the festive atmosphere, mythical history and social glamour of the Mediterranean country, which is famous for its casinos and beach resorts. La Monégasque is a collection that follows codes rooted in tradition, but then interprets them in contemporary style.

With its slim lines, the roundness of the dial drawing out the contours of the bezel, the collection innovates with its unusual and original configuration. It is equipped exclusively with outstanding mechanical movements entirely designed, developed and produced by the ROGER DUBUIS Manufacture. This latest generation of mechanical movements – among them, the RD680 automatic chronograph – matches aesthetic qualities with high performance, and is based on the most specialised production techniques.

Housed in elegant cases of diameter 42 or 44 millimetres, in platinum, pink gold or steel, the 8 models in the new La Monégasque collection reveal their meticulous finish, with contrasting polished and satin surfaces that show off their delicately proportioned outlines. The cases made from pink gold are also enhanced with a decorative bezel in black PVD lacquer. With Roman numerals set on coloured cartouches and extended towards the centre with applied index markers, the dynamic, contrastive dials reveal the true elegance of these watches.

Emphasising its subtle silhouette, each case has a sapphire crystal back through which the 4 self-winding movements available in the collection can be admired: 3-hand automatic, chronograph, perpetual date and tourbillon. Water-resistant to 5 bars (50 metres), with a mechanical movement at its heart made by the Manufacture, the Monégasque – each one stamped with the prestigious Geneva Seal – is the expression of a contemporary vision of Fine Watchmaking.
