Montegrappa – Writing Instruments Collection Dedicated to Russia (Cosmopolitan Moscow, Cosmopolitan St Petersburg and Cosmopolitan Russia)

Following its entry into the sophisticated and challenging Russian luxury sector, Italian writing instrument brand has announced a new collection developed exclusively for that market. It is composed of three models that embody the country’s spirit through bas relief images, defined as Cosmopolitan Moscow, Cosmopolitan St Petersburg and Cosmopolitan Russia.

All pens in the Cosmopolitan families are produced in resin and silver or resin and gold and are available as fountain pens with piston filling system or as rollerballs. All fountain pens are fitted with nibs in 18K gold.
For the caps and bodies of the St Petersburg and Moscow pens, silver has been employed with low relief (basso-rilievo) engraving, featuring monuments and symbols of the two cities. The engravings of Moscow pen represent the University of the City on the cap and the famous St Basil’s Cathedral on the body. Topping each cap is the logo of the city being represented. St Petersburg trims are in pearl grey resin, while Moscow trims are made of red resin.

Cosmopolitan Russia has been fashioned with the fret-working technique that accentuates the contrast between the precious metal and the blue resin. On the cap, the Coat of Arms is engraved in low relief, while the meridians and parallels on the pen barrel are represented together with map of Russia. Its cap top is enamelled with a representation of the Russian flag.
Montegrappa will issue the “Cosmopolitan Russia” pens in the following quantities:
MOSCOW – 1147 pieces to represent the date of the first reference to Moscow, when Yuri Dolgorukiy called upon the prince of the Novgorod-Severski to “come to me, brother, to Moscow.” The silver version will comprise of 550 fountain pens and 550 rollerballs, with 47 gold fountain pens and 47 gold rollerballs completing the edition.

ST PETERSBURG – 1703 examples to denote the year in which Saint Petersburg was founded by Tsar Peter the Great. It will consist of 703 silver fountain pens and 1000 silver rollerballs, as well as 73 gold fountain pens and 73 gold rollerballs.

RUSSIA – 988 pens will represent the year of the Christianisation of Russia. The silver edition will consist of 900 fountain pens and 900 rollerballs, along with 88 gold fountain pens and 88 gold rollerballs.

Caran d’Ache - Caelograph Limited Edition Writing Instruments

World renowned Swiss luxury accessories brand Caran d’Ache unveils a unique fine writing instrument, the Caelograph, which combines technical expertise with design in exploring one of man’s most fascinating passions: the sky.

In its long tradition of innovation, Caran d’Ache has developed another exceptional writing instrument that demonstrates great creativity and expertise. Like inventors always searching for new solutions, the craftsmen at Caran d’Ache have worked closely with an astronomer to produce this unique instrument that explores the sky and the stars.
Beyond its basic function as a writing instrument, the Caelograph is also able to work as a sky watching tool. This highly technical, yet artistic creation with its ingenious mechanism allows you to see the position of the stars and the constellations at any given time, on any date. It brings alive the close, mystical relationship that has existed between man and the stars, Earth and sky, since the dawn of time.

With all its mysteries, myths and legends, the nature of the cosmos has always raised countless questions. Over the millennia, man has learned to observe and measure it in order to understand it better and use the stars and their movements as valuable indicators of time and direction. From the earliest explorers to the latest research in physics, the constellations and stars have guided man’s progress and inspired his dreams. Caelograph puts a small part of this dream within easy reach.

With great technical expertise, this exclusive invention presents a map of the sky in a design enhanced by midnight blue Chinese lacquer. Apart from the natural requirement for accuracy, reproducing a fl at map on the curved surface of a pen is a serious technical challenge. For the first time, the projection process known as Mercator has been applied to a writing instrument. In a second technical feat, Caran d’Ache has managed to represent, on a surface as small as the pen body, the 51 constellations and 353 stars visible from the northern hemisphere.

And that is not all it does. The sky chart is mobile in order to indicate the position of the stars at any chosen time. This astonishing capability is made possible by an exclusive, highly ingenious mechanism based on two rings. One of the rings is mobile and is dedicated to the time, while the fi xed ring is marked in days and months. By adjusting their position, the map can be set to the precise time and date required. A rotating semi-transparent sleeve reveals the visible part of the sky, indicates the horizon line, the compass points and the zenith.

To match this outstanding technical achievement, the Caelograph provides a case enhanced by midnight blue Chinese lacquer, applied according to the strict rules of the art, capable of showing the sky. This decorative technique, which was developed in China more than 3000 years ago and handed down over the generations, requires great dexterity. Very few western craftsmen share its secrets but Caran d’Ache is committed to preserving the precious skills involved in its Geneva workshops. First, the resin is collected from the toxicodendron vernicifluum (lacquer tree) then filtered and purified by hand before colour is added. The lacquer is applied in several extremely thin layers, which are dried and polished to produce its exceptional depth of colour and brilliance. For the Caelograph design, fi ne silvered particles are incorporated into the top layer to add depth to the starry sky which creates an extra challenge for the company’s master lacquerer. The stardust effect is striking and the Milky Way appears in a translucent cloud.

Several other elements form part of the decor. The cap and the nib carry the hour lines typically found on sundials, making a light contrast with the dark Chinese lacquer. A compass rose is mounted on the tip and another is engraved on the nib. The clip is shaped like a compass needle, evoking the ageless link between navigation and astronomy. Depending on the model, the brightest stars are represented by diamonds, including Sirius in the constellation of Canis Major, the Great Dog.

The Caelograph is produced in three versions and presented in noble box. The Alpha edition is coated in platinum and limited to 120 fountain pens and 120 roller pens, a reference to the 12 constellations of the zodiac and the 12 months of the year. The Sirius edition is gold plated and set with a diamond as a tribute to the brightest star in the heavens. It is limited to 52 pieces for the 52 weeks of the year. For those who love the infinity of space, the Zenith refers to the highest point imaginable or the highest degree of knowledge. Only one Zenith piece has been produced, in solid rose gold decorated with 22 diamonds symbolising the 22 brightest stars in the sky; the clip and piston pump are also set with a diamond. Each piece has been produced to the demanding Swiss Made quality standards and carries a lifetime guarantee. Presented with a matching compass and inkwell, the Caelograph invites you to touch the stars with Caran d’Ache’s most beautiful pen.

The Caelograph is produced as a fountain pen and a roller pen. To meet the preferences of its international clientele, Caran d’Ache proposes three latitudes (20°N, 30°N and 45°N) and offers the personalisation of the pen by engraving it with the geographical coordinates of any chosen location. Each piece in the platinum-coated Alpha edition is numbered from 1 – 120 (for each of the 3 latitudes) and from 1-52 in the Sirius edition, gold plated and set with a diamond. The unique Zenith piece is in solid pink gold, with 22 diamonds set on the body and a single diamond on the clip and the piston pump.

Parmigiani Pershing “Zero-Zero-Two” Chronograph Collection

In 2008, Swiss luxury watch manufacture Parmigiani Fleurier introduced a new chronograph line to celebrate its exclusive partnership signed with Pershing, the Italian top-of-the-range yacht builder. Seen as Parmigiani Fleurier’s first highly sporty watch collection, the Pershing limited edition “one-one-five” chronograph, and then the Pershing “zero-zero-five” won over a broad international public, corroborating the good match between the two business cultures, based on values of excellence and expertise in manufacturing know-how.

The new Pershing “zero-zero-two” chronograph collection offers the advantage of matching the expectations of the broad public. Its compact size, with a 42 mm diameter, means that it can be worn by gentlemen, whose preferences will tend more to sobriety and classicism, but also by ladies.
Fully redesigned to achieve balanced lines, its case is made from steel, 18 carat white gold or rose gold. Its Calibre Parmigiani PF 334 in-house automatic movement offers chronograph indications (large seconds, 30 minute counter, 12 hour counter) combined with a large date display window. Its push-pieces are made from white or black rubber, depending on the wristlet colour, if the watch is steel; they are made from precious metal if the chronograph model is gold. Its unidirectional rotating bezel, 3-metre base tachometric measurement indicator and its 100 metre water resistance give it the ideal characteristics for a diving watch.
A highly feminine version Pershing “zero-zero-two” chronograph has been custom designed, with a number of alluring original details. In tribute to a more poetic maritime look, its blue mother-of-pearl dial reflects the ocean deeps, which is underlined via the presence of a small stylised octopus placed on the end of the chronograph hand. The small seconds is a starfish that turns to mark the seconds. The brilliance of the aquatic reflections is interpreted by precious diamond and sapphire baguettes set on its bezel.

There is a white Hermes Epsom calfskin strap, with blue stitching, for the mother-of-pearl version; and a steel bracelet or natural rubber strap for the more classic versions of the Pershing “zero-zero-two” chronograph with graphite, amaranth or silver dial.

HYSEK Verdict 45mm Chronograph Grande Date Limited Edition

The new Grande Date version from HYSEK Verdict 45mm Chronograph collection is a high performance timepiece equipped with state of the art movement HYSEK HW4058. Produced in limited edition of 30 pieces, the watch dressed in a titanium round case with architected lines, is available on hand-sewn alligator leather.

The Verdict Chronograph collection was introduced in 2011, and this year HYSEK enhances this collection with a Chronograph Grande Date model. This chronograph Grande Date movement with home-made column wheel, developed and assembled in house, with high-end finishing including hand-executed bevelling, Côte de Genève on the wheels specifically cut out for Hysek, has the singularity of having a self-winding mechanism using a micro-rotor.

The highly original design of the mechanical structure, made of 412 components and 49 jewels, is here magnified by the presence on the movement side, of components such as springs, levers or bridges, hand-crafted bevelling. In addition, it has dial-side, an oscillating mass in parallel with decorative oscillating weight, visible through the sapphire back of the instrument.

This ludic mass contributes to strengthening the effectiveness of equipment of the barrel chronograph with its heavy weight, and guarantees high autonomy. However, it is undoubtedly the graphic power of this "micro-rotor" oscillating in the arm movements and holding down the dial where counters timed minutes elapsed and permanent seconds emerge, which holds the attention of fans still looking for creations with a strong identity.

HYSEK Verdict 45mm Tourbillon Limited Edition

In Verdict 45mm Tourbillon, the Arabic numeral 11 hour index, which is a key design characteristic of HYSEK watches, was removed and made way for the tourbillon placed at the 10 o’clock position. The other rhodium-plated, hand-applied Arabic numerals 1, 5 and 7 which are signature design codes remain on the dial.

As there is no top-end supporting bridge, one will recognise this as a flying tourbillon. With an open display case back, the brand’s in-house Manufacture tourbillon’s beauty can be fully appreciated from top and rear view perspectives. A grande date display sits at the 2 o’clock position and is set via a push-button at 4 o’clock.

The 45mm diameter case in grade 5 titanium is rounded to suit those more into classic-shaped timekeepers while retaining the characteristic HYSEK look. From the back, it is worth observing the results of the high-end finishings employed such as cerclage and hand-chamfering which are comparable to Poinçon de Genève standards. The in-house automatic movement, made from 345 components, features an oscillating weight in 22-Karat gold and rhodium-plated. DAVOSA Black Ternos Ceramic

Swiss watchmaker DAVOSA first issued its popular divers’ watch, the Ternos, in a completely black, 333-piece limited edition series in 2010. The watch sold out very fast. DAVOSA Salome Limited Edition

Swiss watchmaker DAVOSA has named its latest skeleton model after the mythological historical figure of Salome – the most beautiful and seductive woman of her time. In keeping with this myth of ancient beauty, DAVOSA has employed stunning inner features such as golden gear wheels, blued screws and ruby red jewel bearings.
The watch’s outer features include a rounded case and equally subtle hands, designed not to detract from the embellished movement inside. The DAVOSA Salome is available in three limited edition versions of 333 apiece. With a real salmon leather strap in the colours sand, red and platinum, the DAVOSA Salome retails at 598 Euros.
The DAVOSA Salome is unusually large for a ladies’ watch. It measures a quite considerable 43 millimetres in diameter. The rationale behind the larger size is to make the skeleton movement more prominent than would have been the case in a smaller watch. Furthermore, this watch is designed as homage to the very first ladies’ watches from the start of the twentieth century that were nothing other than redesigned pocket watches that were worn on the wrist for the very first time. The unostentatious case and simple lugs of the DAVOSA Salome are a tribute to these early watches.
An additional special feature of the limited edition DAVOSA Salome: On the outer rim of the 43 mm case is engraved a number from 1 to 333. It further underscoring the individual sophistication that differentiates this watch and its wearer.

Girard-Perregaux DLC Titanium Bi-Axial Tourbillon Limited Edition

Swiss luxury watch brand Girard-Perregaux unveils another spectacular creation with an exclusive limited edition of its bi-axial Tourbillon. The astonishingly modern architecture of the Brand iconic movement is enhanced by a black DLC-coated titanium case and magnified by the contrast of colors and materials. The caliber designed and crafted using the most accomplished watchmaking expertise is turned into an avant-garde design statement.

A masterwork of technology, the Girard-Perregaux bi-axial Tourbillon combines two concentric cages that enable the regulating part to make multi-dimensional rotations. This complex construction compensates for rate irregularities due to the Earth’s gravity. An internal cage bearing the balance wheel, balance spring and escapement completes one full turn on its axis in forty-five seconds.

In addition, an external cage completes one revolution in one minute and fifteen seconds, enabling a rotation on its second axis. A full revolution is completed in three minutes and forty-five seconds. This aerial ballet offers an extraordinary spectacle, while the alternation of positions enables excellent rate precision. The sophisticated mechanism has an astounding delicacy: the two cages weigh just 0.80 grams, yet comprise a total of over one hundred and ten components.

For the Furtif 44mm Chronograph Grande Date, Hysek Manufacture has created, developed and assembled a new caliber whose options, set in action by pieces such as classical column wheel, levers and springs beveled by hand, were significantly improved following an extensive engineering work.

Thus, the automatic winding of the heart is no longer assigned to an oscillating classical turning point mass, but to a micro-rotor integrated into the movement structure itself. Mastering their classics, the developers of the Manufacture have increased the power of micro-rotor winding combining the one visible on the dial to the one present on the back of the watch.

This new type of engine is located in the heart of a titanium and rose gold case, with mobile handles for better ergonomics and adorned with a sapphire glass screwed into four points to maximize its readability. All very architecturally, it reveals the power of an avant-gardiste, intensely urban tool. Fluid and present on the wrist, this timepiece with Grande Date can be worn in a relaxing way on hand-sewn alligator strap, closed by a double security fold-over buckle developed exclusively by Hysek Manufacture.

Jaeger-LeCoultre unveils its new boutique on the Place Vendôme, Paris

Swiss luxury watch manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre has opened their new boutique at Place Vendôme, Paris. A 500 m2 surface area, an innovative concept soon to be rolled out in other countries: the Manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre, a worldwide reference in the watchmaking field, reveals a new interior decoration style for its boutiques and makes Paris its international capital.

Over 1,000 different calibres, 400 patents, 40 professions, a significant number of major horological inventions as well as many records in terms of miniaturisation and precision: since its creation by Antoine LeCoultre, the Swiss Manufacture born in 1833 in the legendary Vallée de Joux has firmly established itself as one of the main benchmarks in Fine Watchmaking. 2012 sees the Manufacture further amplify its international deployment in order to continue sharing its horological passion on a truly global scale. Paris, Geneva, Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, London, Milan, Moscow, Dubai, Singapore, Macao and soon Las Vegas… In all these worldwide capitals of luxury, Jaeger-LeCoultre turns its boutiques into must-see meeting places for watchmaking enthusiasts. To date, 46 Jaeger-LeCoultre boutiques around the world perpetuate the spirit of the Manufacture and its innovation-based values.
In 2005, Jaeger-LeCoultre had decided to establish itself on the Place Vendôme, the vibrant heart of French-style luxury, a legendary place where prestigious Houses and palace hotels sparkle and beckon. There, in the splendid Hôtel de Villemaré designed in the 17th century by Mansart, the favoured architect of Louis XIV, the brand has found an ideal showcase in which to present its latest creations and its iconic models.

On the eve of celebrating the 180th anniversary of its Manufacture, Jaeger-LeCoultre has chosen to transform this Parisian boutique at No. 7, Place Vendôme, in order to express its expansion through a considerably enlarged area that thus becomes the new brand flagship. An impressive 500 m2 area will now be devoted to the watches from the Manufacture, amid a revamped interior design pervaded by a sense of discreet luxury, serene intimacy and elegant refinement entirely in tune with current tastes. A warm, luminous space where Jaeger-LeCoultre will be to convey at once its past, its present and its future…

Infinitely more than just a boutique: a place of hospitality, of encounters and of discoveries intended for collectors, for brand devotees and for all connoisseurs. An exceptional venue reflecting the prestige of the House in order to offer Fine Watchmaking lovers a range of new Jaeger-LeCoultre experiences…

As one of the greatest international watch manufacturers, the Maison has woven genuine ties with connoisseurs of Fine Watchmaking. This is precisely why this new space has been designed as a place of hospitality where loyal brand lovers, collectors and all devotees of high-end watches will receive a warm welcome.

Because watchmaking is above all a question of passion, Jaeger-LeCoultre has decided to make its new boutique on the Place Vendôme far more than just a sales room, since visitors to No. 7 Place Vendôme will now be offered a range of authentic horological experiences.

The first pleasing sensations will be elicited by the beautifully curved and light-filled rotunda-stylereception area. The visual discovery will begin with the very first look at the mezzanine area where pieces from the historical heritage of the Manufacture will be on display. A giant mechanism adorning the ceiling will set visitors off on their journey to the heart of Fine Watchmaking by evoking one of the latest horological inventions from the Manufacture: the Duomètre Sphérotourbillon.

Beyond the reception lounge, a first area will serve to present the current collections. In order to satisfy a broad spectrum of expectations and curiosity, the watches will be grouped by theme: classic, feminine, technical, Grande Complication models…

As a reminder of the more than 1,000 calibres created by the Manufacture over almost 180 years, an entire wall of watch movements will be on show at ground-floor level, symbolising the diversity of expertise cultivated by Jaeger-LeCoultre, which still produces under its own roof around 40 calibres per year – from the world’s smallest mechanical movement, Calibre 101, to the most complicated mechanisms housing up to 1,200 parts.

On the upper floor, two spacious rooms featuring a warm, refined interior design will showcase the Grande Complication or Haute Joaillerie watches from the Manufacture and will provide an ideal setting for temporary exhibitions devoted to new releases, as well as to horological icons such as the Reverso, the Atmos or the Deep Sea watch… A second adjoining room will offer the refinement of a VIP lounge and the appeal of an exceptional view over the Place Vendôme.
The circular gallery opening up on to the rotunda will subsequently provide an opportunity to discover various artistic crafts exercised in the Manufacture (gem-setting, enamelling, engraving, mastery of horological complications), as well as the legendary Atmos clocks.

Moreover, because the new Jaeger-LeCoultre boutique is intended to be a place brimming with life and passion, it is well worth visiting the land of the watchmakers. The entire area will be reserved for workshops where specialists will handle maintenance, repairs and other interventions on any watches with which they may be entrusted. As a bonus, cameras will offer a chance to observe their work on a broad screen enabling viewers to plunge into the heart of the watch movements in their care. A team member will always be on hand to provide explanations and answer visitors’ questions. It is also an invitation to share the history of Jaeger- LeCoultre, since visitors will be able to enjoy a close-up look at a wealth of historical treasures rarely revealed to the public at large: horological instruments invented by Antoine LeCoultre such as the Millionometer, historical pocket-watches presenting the most beautiful complications, and Atmos clocks.

Presentation rooms, lounges, workshops: each of the various areas will provide a setting for distinctive discoveries: exceptional pieces from the Jaeger-LeCoultre heritage, a “Cabinet of Curiosities dedicated to horology, examples of theme-based scenography, close-up looks at artistic crafts and skills exercised within the Manufacture, etc…
Each square metre of the new boutique will be truly dedicated to horological passion in all its forms, and will vividly reflect the prestige of the Grande Maison.

New boutique, new concept, new design
Jaeger-LeCoultre wished to treat its Parisian boutique to an atmosphere effectively mirroring its identity. Noble materials, elegant colours, talented hand craftsmanship: the entire range of brand values in terms of aesthetic elegance, technical sophistication and refinement are expressed on the Place Vendôme.

For its iconic new boutique on Place Vendôme, Jaeger-LeCoultre wanted to convey its vision of luxury and to express its personality by entrusting the finest specialists with the mission of imbuing this highly original place with a sense of pleasure and well-being. This quest is translated first of all through the choice of materials. On the ground level, the flooring is covered with paving stones quarried from Sainte-Croix-de-Mareuil, France. On the upper floor, the Versailles parquet floor made of oak from controlled forests creates an appealingly contemporary touch.

In reference to the historical roots of the House, Art Deco is reinterpreted through discreet reminders of the brand’s aesthetic identity codes, such as the famous gadroons on the Reverso. Although white definitely dominates the scene, the light grey shade of certain velvet silk wall hangings, and the black hue of the brushed oak woodwork, endows the interior design with a blend of visual rhythm and refinement.

The most truly one-of-a-kind feature in the new Jaeger-LeCoultre boutique on Place Vendôme is undoubtedly its splendid elevator, which appears to have been carved from a block of translucent alabaster. As if lit up from inside, this white stone typical of the Art Deco era reveals its veins and its mottling, enhanced by wrought-iron elements. The satin-brushed effect of the black nickel calls for difficult and accurate work on polished, waxed and patinated brass. The alliance of stone and metal make this elevator a genuine work of art in its own right.

The lighting has been carefully designed to provide subtle alternations between softer and more brightly lit areas. The light from the understated ceiling, from hand-crafted wall lamps, or from the elevator and the staircase, make this new boutique a particularly warm space dedicated to presentation, exposition and visitors. Glass furniture and display windows hosting the watches; dark leather armchairs and sofas: everything combines to create a welcoming, serene and refined atmosphere.

All the new Jaeger-LeCoultre boutiques worldwide will be created in this spirit, intermingling the roots of the Manufacture with local hand craftsmanship skills, so as to respect the values of Fine Watchmaking along with local cultures and the environment. And of course to provide the watches from the Manufacture with the noble backdrop they so richly deserve.
