Enriched by the expertise cultivated by the Manufacture in the Vallée de Joux, the new Rendez-Vous Celestial for women by Jaeger-LeCoultre subtly distils its horological messages while also showcasing the beauty of a face exquisitely enhanced by Métiers Rares® (rare crafts). In tribute to astronomy, its flamboyant finery reflects the colours of the sun through the unusual choice of bordeaux aventurine. The sophisticated aesthetic of this radiant, fiery new creation exercises an irresistible magnetic attraction.
As part of the tribute that Jaeger-LeCoultre is paying to astronomy this year, the palette of colours gracing its new creation naturally explores variations in blue – evoking an immediate connection with the celestial canopy. Yet the observation of the heavenly bodies, considered the most ancient of sciences, was long focused essentially on the sun. This incandescent giant inspired the Grande Maison to create a new Rendez-Vous Celestial clothed in a fiery mantle.
For this new creation, the case of the Rendez-Vous Celestial is crafted in warm-tinted pink gold, making a stunning match with bordeaux aventurine, while infusing the watch with a sophisticated and contemporary elegance. Like a luminous echo of the precious metal, diamonds adorn the sides of the case, all the way to the crowns and the bezel, forming a precious halo above the numerals. The gemsetter’s talent lies in perfectly mastering the art of positioning gems in such as way as to ensure they sparkle even more brightly. The rows of diamonds around the dial and bezel of the Rendez-Vous Celestial create a sparkling aura that accentuates the ardent nature of this model.
The elliptical dial opening houses a disc bearing a sky chart. The mechanical automatic movement drives this disc at the almost imperceptible cadence of 23 hours, 56 minutes and 4 seconds – a highly symbolic figure for all those who are fascinated by astronomy. A splendid depiction of the zodiac portrays the sedate dance of the zodiac signs at 6 o’clock. Each of the 12 signs is said to correspond to certain character traits, while the zodiac as a whole is believed to reflect the entire range of distinctive features of the human soul. The signs of the zodiac, along with the various constellations, have been painted on the rotating dial. The artist has drawn inspiration from ancient depictions of the constellations to recreate a charming narrative.
The zodiac calendar serves to specify the position of the constellations at any time of the year, via an annual calendar that regulates the time display and measurement system. With the new Rendez-Vous Celestial as an astronomical observation instrument, reading the sky takes on a unique delicacy. Nonetheless, this prodigious watch gives free rein to the imagination. The developers of the model have chosen to integrate a star in order to personalise time: by means of the second crown adorned with an inverted diamond, the mobile star shifts in tune with the wishes of the woman who turns it in order to indicate the hour of her choice, whether that of a happy memory or a date she is setting with destiny.
This new creation has the fiery colour and majestic presence of the sun, to which constellations and zodiac signs add their mesmerising charm while testifying to the expertise of the Manufacture from the Vallée de Joux.
