Longines and the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities (IFHA) will reward the world’s best racehorses

As the Official Partner and Watch of the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities, the Saint-Imier based Swiss watch brand presents the Longines World’s Best Racehorse Ceremony for the second time. Held at the iconic hotel Claridge’s in London (United Kingdom), a city combining an innate elegance and a very long equestrian tradition, the ceremony will honour the top highest rated horses in the 2014 Longines World’s Best Racehorse Rankings. These rankings are established by international handicappers according to the performance of the horses in elite races.

The ceremony will be followed by a press conference that will be the occasion for the handicappers to summarize and discuss the Longines World’s Best Racehorse Rankings for 2014.
The owner of the winner will receive the trophy of the Longines World’s Best Racehorse, a chronograph from the Conquest Classic collection. With a diameter of 41 mm, this watch in rose gold, fitted with a black alligator strap, houses the exclusive mechanical column-wheel caliber L688. Its silvered dial is set with one arabic numeral and 11 applied indices with Super-LumiNova®. It displays the hours and the minutes, a small second at 9, a 30-minute counter at 3, a 12-hour counter at 6 as well as the date. Just as the entire collection Conquest Classic, this timepiece is water-resistant to 5 bar and its screw-down case back is fitted with a sapphire glass.
A replica of the vase of the Longines World’s Best Racehorse will be presented to the owner of the winning horse as well. The original vase is now on display in Hour Passion on Oxford Street (London), the Swatch Group concept store. This vase was created by a renowned French glassmaking manufacture. It is enveloped by a herd of wild horses that represent strength and speed and evoke a spirit of freedom and independence. Every year, the name of the Longines World’s Best Racehorse is engraved on it. The elegance of the vase is mirrored by the refinement of the Longines timepieces on offer.

This will be the perfect occasion to discover the Conquest Classic models, a collection dedicated to Longines’ passion for equestrian sports. True to the brand’s values of elegance, tradition and performance, these watches, all fitted with self-winding calibres, are at the same time totally contemporary and perfectly timeless.

Longines has shown passionate enthusiasm for the world of horses since 1878, when it produced a chronograph engraved with a jockey and his mount. Today, Longines is proud to be the Official Partner and Watch of IFHA, and to lend its name to the Longines World’s Best Racehorse Rankings.

The date of the ceremony will also mark the unveiling of the full Longines World’s Best Racehorse Rankings and European 2-year-old classifications for 2014.
