Burberry - The Britain Icon Check Collection

This year, Burberry is introducing The Britain Icon Check collection. Featuring two exclusive models designed by Burberry Chief Creative and Chief Executive Officer Christopher Bailey- a numbered limited edition for men and a made to order piece for women - the collection takes its inspiration from the trench coat’s iconic check lining. First introduced in the 1920s, the check motif is reinterpreted in precious materials, set and assembled by hand in Switzerland.

The Britain Icon Check for Women Limited Edition
The women’s timepiece has a 38mm solid 18K rose gold case with a diamond-set bezel and diamond and mother-of-pearl-set dial. The model is the first watch to use the STP3-13 movement with swan neck. Inspired by the iconic Burberry check, the dial features 245 diamonds handset in an interwoven grid design, separated with miniature mother-of-pearl pieces precisely cut and laid by hand. 124 diamonds are pavé-set into the bezel. Made by STP, an innovative mechanical movement manufacturer, the STP3-13 calibre with swan neck enables the watchmaker to adjust the timekeeping of the watch with extreme precision.

The Britain Icon Check for Men Limited Edition
With a 45mm DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon)-coated titanium case, the men’s timepiece features a woven check-shaped skeleton dial and a mechanical movement with manual winding.

The anthracite grid, used as a dial, is designed to replicate a woven check fabric through a process of swaging and a vertical satin finish. Below the grid, a smoked sapphire crystal allows visibility of the mechanical movement with manual winding; plates feature the prestigiousCôtes de Genève decoration. Despite the multi-layered construction of the watch and large case diameter, the overall design is slim. The DLC-coating on the titanium case gives optimum protection and enhances the polished and brushed finish of the case. The Britain Icon Check for men is limited to 20 numbered pieces.

About the STP3-13 movement
A first for The Britain range, The Britain Icon Check for women features a calibre from innovative movement company Swiss Technology Production (STP) SA. Founded in 2012, the movement manufacturer developed the STP1-11 calibre, an automatic three-hand calendar 11 1/2” ligne with a 44-hour power reserve. Such power reserve is achieved by using a thinner mainspring, allowing for additional turns of spring in the barrel.

The engineers at STP collaborated with Burberry to create the first swan neck for an STP movement. Based on calibre STP1-11, the new calibre STP3-13 benefits from the same higher power reserve with the added swan neck feature.

The swan neck is a device that allows for a much more precise adjustment of the racket due to the action of a screw that pushes the racket arrow against a U-shaped spring. This enables the watchmaker to be more precise than when using the traditional adjustment with a simple racket, thanks to the distribution of force across the U-shaped spring.

About The Britain
Swiss made and designed by Burberry Chief Creative and Chief Executive Officer Christopher Bailey, The Britain embodies the brand's British heritage and is built on design, innovation and function. Based on the same design principles and craftsmanship as the iconic Burberry trench coat, The Britain references the signature details including the D-ring shaped bezel, the trench colour palette and iconic Burberry check. Each element is delicately built by hand, from the placing of the movement, to the tightening of the bezel screws.
