COINWATCH - Mark C163 SBK/RBK (The First Fully Skeletonized Watch in the Mark Collection)

Since its debut in 2011, the Mark Collection of Coinwatch has adhered to its robust yet fashionable image, as well as the convention of incorporating the finest Swiss-made movement in order to strive for excellence. Launched in 2012, the C122 model from the Mark Collection has been much admired for its distinctive design and outstanding performance. In 2015, Coinwatch proudly presents a new model derived from this well-celebrated predecessor, an avant-garde fully skeletonized watch which manifests the brand’s relentless pursuit of the pinnacle of craftsmanship.

Once a unit of values during the medieval times as well as the former official currency of Germany, “Mark” is now the byword for perfection in Coinwatch’s glossary. In addition to its iconic outline, the Mark Collection is also renowned for its mechanical movement which is highly acclaimed among watch enthusiasts. This year, the brand is determined to break new ground by crafting its first watch that exhibits its meticulous movement through a fully and exquisitely skeletonized dial. With this, watch enthusiasts can finally get more than a sneak peak of the movement’s mechanical secrets from the caseback. Visual pleasure is enhanced on both sides of the watch.

The C122 model has established the paradigm of the Mark Collection’s remarkable design since its debut in 2012. Inspired by the one-US-dollar coin circulated in 1980, the timepiece interweaves the contrastive linear elements of the case’s round contours and its dodecagonal inner edge. Instead of the usual enclosed version, the new C163SBK and C163RBK feature a fully and delicately skeletonized dial. Through this breathtakingly intricate dial, the viewers can appreciate the mechanical aesthetics of the movement. It feels like glimpsing into a gorgeous kaleidoscope.
Coinwatch demonstrates its distinctive watchmaking craftsmanship by delicately combining the essence of Chinese and Western cultures. While the shape of the case is modelled after a Western coin, the bridge on the skeletonized dial resembles a copper coin from ancient China. Located at 12H, the balance wheel is enveloped by a circular frame, which not only reveals the classical appeal of an ancient Chinese coin, but also highlights the balance wheel. Meanwhile, stretched between 4H and 8H, a bridge is shaped like an antique Chinese “knife money”. It is engraved with the brand’s logo and embellished with two blue screws at both ends. Drawing inspiration from different types of tokens, the top and bottom of the dial display a vivid contrast while correlating to the combination of lines and curves in the case’s design, and hence accentuate the uniqueness of the sophisticated creation.

Designed as a high-end watch, the C163 model attends to every detail to achieve utmost perfection. Made of 316L stainless steel, the 42mm case is also available in the alternative rose-gold-plated version. Both editions are matched with a fully skeletonized dial in grey, adorned by rose gold indexes and a grey leather strap. Limited to 999 pieces for each version, the watch is engraved with the number of sequence on its caseback to signify the prestigious status of the wearers.
