Hublot Big Bang UNICO Chronograph Retrograde Kobe “Vino” Bryant

Hublot has announced the debut of its latest timepiece with Brand Ambassador, Kobe Bryant, the Big Bang UNICO Chronograph Retrograde Kobe “Vino” Bryant, which coincided with the opening of its first boutique in San Francisco. This is the second timepiece the brand has produced with the basketball legend, after the success of the King Power Black Mamba Chronograph coinciding with his 2013 ambassadorship announcement.

On April 29, Hublot CEO Ricardo Guadalupe welcomed guests to a private winery in the Napa Valley for an exclusive winemaking event and intimate press conference with Kobe Bryant, in honor of the star’s newest timepiece. Known as the Big Bang “Vino,” (a nod to Bryant’s nickname “Vino”), the timepiece is the the world’s first mechanical watch designed to time basketball .After the conference on the great lawn, guests followed Philip Norfleet, Managing Director of the winery, to tour the vineyard and the stunning caves located below the property. An “Art of Blending” session and gourmet wine-paired luncheon in the estate’s private dining room was the perfect finish to the morning’s launch. The setting connected both to the burgundy-colored watch’s namesake and inspiration, but also the star’s childhood spent in Italy and Hublot’s surrounding Vaudois countryside dotted with wineries.
The Big Bang UNICO Chronograph Retrograde Kobe “Vino” Bryant, available in Ceramic and King Gold, features a sleek design that reflects Kobe’s personal style off the court. Burgundy embellishments are reflected on the strap, stitching and dial of the timepiece. The Chronograph Retrograde is designed to time the two halves of a basketball game – an innovative concept that Hublot has produced specifically for this timepiece.
The dial features a prominent basketball design integrated into a matte burgundy multilayer disc. On the case back, a green glass in rare earth minerals with an interior antireflective treatment carries Kobe Bryant’s signature. Available in two versions, 18K King Gold and Black Ceramic, each piece will be delivered with two interchangeable straps – one black rubber and burgundy stitching and one burgundy python with burgundy stitching.

Ralph Lauren Stirrup Petite-Link Steel with Mother-of-Pearl Dial, Mother’s Day 2015 EPK

Ralph Lauren presents the elegant Stirrup Petite-Link timepiece with mother of-pearl dial as a timeless, memorable gift to honor Mother’s Day.

Launched in 2009, the Stirrup collection is at the heart of the Ralph Lauren brand. The collection has become a contemporary icon in the watchmaking world, reflecting Ralph Lauren’s passion for equestrian style.

In 2014, the Ralph Lauren Stirrup Petite-Link timepieces were introduced with cases measuring a mere 23.30mm by 27mm. Perfectly sized for the delicate female wrist, this modern interpretation of Ralph Lauren’s equestrian heritage contrasts the brand’s iconic stirrup-shaped case with a jewelry-inspired bracelet. Composed of intertwining links flowing into one another, the bracelet adapts seamlessly to the wrist’s contour for an optimal level of comfort.
Among these recent models is the Stirrup Petite-Link with a mother-of-pearl dial. With its unique stirrup silhouette, supple chain-link bracelet and refined dial, this timepiece captures the essence of Ralph Lauren’s approach to designing women’s watches. The mother-of-pearl dial is complemented by classic black Roman numerals, minute markers and sword-shaped hands—all encompassed by a beautifully curved sapphire crystal. The watch is powered by the Swiss manufacture caliber RL057 quartz movement, which is decorated with traditional Côtes de Genève stripes. With a battery life of approximately 60 months, it offers precision and carefree maintenance.

Breitling Superocean II 36

For women who want to experience adventures at great depths, Breitling has created an exclusive new version of its Superocean model in a 36 mm diameter, featuring white-clad dial, bezel and strap, a case water-resistant to 200 m/660 ft and an officially chronometer-certified self-winding movement.

Despite its “small” size, the Superocean II 36 has what it takes to be a champion of the abyss, and even though its all-white look definitely stands out on dry ground, it remains a paragon of performance, reliability and functionality beneath the sea.
The rubber-molded unidirectional fluted rotating bezel displays large clearly visible numerals, a countdown of the last fifteen minutes of dive time, and a triangle with a luminescent marker at 12 o’clock. The dial is adorned with large rounded numerals and oversized hands accentuated by a luminescent coating. The ultra-sturdy polished steel case with screw-locked crown guarantees perfect water resistance to a depth of 200 m/660 ft. The new rubber Ocean Racer strap reinforces the sporting vocation of this timepiece with a row of holes surrounded by an embossed circular motif. This model is also available in a version with black dial and strap.
The Superocean II 36 is equipped with a mechanical self-winding movement chronometer-certified by the COSC (Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute), the highest official benchmark in terms of precision and reliability.

Arnold & Son UTTE (New References)

Swiss luxury watch brand Arnold & Son unveils three new references of the UTTE. Two references featuring stunning mother-of-pearl dials and a third reference with a black lacquered dial. Each new reference of the UTTE houses the A&S8200 movement measuring just 2.97 mm thick and the final cased watch a mere 8.34 mm. The calibre A&S8200 was developed designed and manufactured entirely in house at the brand’s La Chaux-de-Fonds workshops.

The UTTE is part of Arnold & Son’s Instrument Collection, wherein timepieces are easily identified by their dial design, with off-center position of the hours and minutes to allow for the display of other complications without one overlapping the other. The UTTE follows this design aesthetic, with the spherical tourbillon occupying the lower portion of the dial. The alluring, timeless lines of the stepped 42 mm case, which tapers from the top to the bottom, imbue this watch with an austere elegance.

The dial of the UTTE has a complex multilevel structure with different finishes that offer breathtaking depth and dimension. The three new references share the same dial design butwith different finishes and materials in order to complement the respective case material. The first palladium reference has a Tahiti mother-of-pearl and silvery opaline dial and the second palladium reference has a stunning black lacquered and silvery opaline dial. The new18-carat red gold reference has a white mother-of-pearl and silvery opaline dial.

The UTTE is a masterful demonstration of elegant design and superb technical prowess. The ultra-thin A&S8200 movement – and the ultimate UTTE watch – is the result of several years of research and development, and boasts important features and functions. In fact, when the brand embarked on the creation of an additional tourbillon, Arnold & Son’s team of watchmakers and engineers determined that the end result should possess unique features that would set it apart in the watch world: It had to be at the same time thin, boast a big and three-dimensional tourbillon cage and have a long power reserve.
Utilizing the most cutting-edge technology, Arnold & Son pushed the creative envelope to achieve this goal - thus developing an exceptional timepiece. The UTTE has a movement that is just 2.97 mm thick and a case thickness of only 8.34 mm, making the UTTE one of the thinnest tourbillon watches on the market.
Additionally, while the movement diameter is 32 mm, the tourbillon cage is a massive 14 mm in diameter – thus occupying almost half of the movement space for impressive visual appeal. To add further dramatic beauty to this already impressive watch, Arnold & Son created a totally spherical tourbillon cage – one devoid of any flat surfaces – for a magnificent three dimensional aesthetic effect. In fact, the flying tourbillon cage is not inset into the calibre, but instead rises out of the movement, through the dial, and achieves the same height as the hour and minute hands. With an eye toward every detail, and the desire for harmonious appeal, the watchmakers removed all visible screws so the spherical tourbillon cage appears beautifully balanced. The only visible screws are on the regulator.

Finally, to ensure a long power reserve of at least 90 hours, the brand implemented two barrels to offer more constant force and unprecedented power reserve for an ultra-thin tourbillon.

The UTTE references are created in either 18-carat red gold or palladium. Each movement is finished in a colour to complement the case colour, and each features a different Côtes de Genève pattern. The 18-carat red gold reference houses the movement treated in rhodium and decorated with Côtes de Genève rayonnantes. In addition the tourbillon bridge of this reference is entirely hand-engraved by Arnold & Son’s master engraver. The palladium UTTE references house a NAC grey treated movement decorated with a straight Côtes de Genève pattern for a bold, contemporary appeal.

Chopard Mille Miglia GTS Collection - Automatic, Power Control and Chrono

Over the years since its launch in 1988, the Mille Miglia has become a flagship collection of Chopard. In 2015, Chopard is entirely revisiting this grand classic by introducing the collection dubbed Mille Miglia GTS (for Grand Turismo Sport). This new collection, composed of a three-hand and date chronometer, a power reserve and a chronograph, sees the introduction of a Chopard movement: for the first time, the chronometer and power-reserve models will be equipped with a Chopard movement from the workshops of Fleurier Ebauches. The sleek, sophisticated design of these new creations rejuvenates the Classic Racing spirit embodied by the Mille Miglia collection, while remaining true to the identity codes of the models rolled out over the past 25 years. The Mille Miglia GTS Automatic, Power Control and Chrono models vividly illustrate this renewal.

Since 1988, Chopard has been official timekeeper of “la corsa più bella del mondo” that annually stretches from Brescia to Rome and back. The Mille Miglia collection stems from the fascination for classic cars nurtured by Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, co-president of Chopard. A collector and active driver, he takes part in the race each year.
The new Mille Miglia GTS is a complete collection composed of a three-hand chronometer with date display, a chronograph and a power-reserve model. These three models with their eminently masculine curves are inspired by the classic cars that took part in the race between 1940 and 1957. Their steel cases – featuring a 43 mm diameter for the Automatic and Power Control versions and 44 mm for the Chrono version – are fitted with short, pointed lugs that are carefully tapered to ensure optimal comfort on the wrist, while the sporting nature of these timepieces is enhanced by facetted hands.

This is the first time that certain Mille Miglia watches are driven by a Chopard movement. Calibres 01.01-C and 01.08-C were entirely designed, developed and assembled in the Fleurier Ebauche workshops. They are highly prized by Chopard and meet all the quality demands of the Mille Miglia, respectively equipping the Automatic and Power Control versions of this new Mille Miglia GTS collection.
The exclusive nature of these watches entirely matches that of the glorious classic cars that take part in this race. Their construction ensures the robustness that is indispensable on models dedicated to competitive racing. Their automatic winding ensures essential ease of use. Its 60-hour power reserve enables their owner to find them still running smoothly and accurately after a period of rest. Finally, its certification by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC) testifies to the precision of its rating, a must-have attribute for Chopard watches in general and of course for racing drivers. This much-coveted statute is reflected by the “Chronometer” inscription appearing on the dials of each model in the new Mille Miglia GTS collection, which bear the inscription “Chronometer”.
Dedicated to Italy’s most famous and closely followed classic car race, the Mille Miglia GTS Automatic, Power Control and Chrono watches are designed as wrist worn auxiliary navigation instruments. The bezel of the various models feature a graduated black aluminium insert accentuating the sporting nature of the Mille Mille GTS Power Control. The dials of the watches in the Mille Miglia GTS collection are black with red and white accents, a tribute to the aesthetic of vintage car dashboards. The power-reserve indicator evokes a petrol gauge typical of the 1950s. The date aperture appears in the Mille Miglia red-arrow race logo, a nod to the numbers on the doors and bonnets of the competing cars. The lively, dynamic nature of the race as a whole is symbolised by the distinctive presence of red on the dial, particularly on the minutes track and the seconds hand of each timepiece. This collection is available in steel with a steel bracelet or rubber strap, or in rose gold with a rubber strap. The latter also recalls the racing world and draws inspiration from the Dunlop tyres of classic 1960s cars.

The Automatic and Power Control versions introduce a font characteristic of the new Mille Miglia GTS collection. The dial features oversized 6 and 12 o’clock numerals painted in Superluminova and reminiscent of the dashboards of classic cars that forever preserve the spirit of the “competizione” dear to the hearts of classic racing enthusiasts.

The Mille Miglia GTS collection is a tribute to “la corsa più bella del monad” dedicated to drivers combining a competitive spirit with distinctive style.

Luminox RECON Leader Chronograph 8840 Series

Luminox introduces the Leader, a new chronograph alarm model in the successful RECON series. The watches in the RECON Series each bear the title of a Reconnaissance team member and have features specific to their roles in a RECON operation. The team leader coordinates, conducts and makes important decisions whenever required. He is in charge of successfully accomplishing the mission. Leadership qualities, such as determination, flexibility, a sense of calm, and the ability to quickly analyze a situation and make the right decision at the right moment are critical to being a RECON leader, and the key figure of a RECON team.

The RECON Leader has an alarm function as leaders (military or business) have deadlines to take into consideration and, when every second counts, the watch has a chrono function to enable split second timing. The World Time City Zones Bezel, also enables the leader to coordinate operations in different time zones.
All RECON models feature an easy to read walking speed tachymeter, either in kilometers (8841.KM) or miles (8842.MI) per hour, a contrast-color countdown quadrant of the dial that can be used to coordinate start times for manoeuvres, and a bezel compass rose to help establish the wearer’s position.
The watch strap features three common map scales which can be used to measure distances on maps without the need for calculations and an inch/cm measurement and comparison chart.

RECON Series watches are packaged in military-style MOLLE (MOdular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment) units that double as sunglass cases.
Designed in collaboration with former Swiss Army Military Security NCO Andrea Micheli, an internationally recognized law enforcement and military journalist and shooting instructor, the Swiss-made RECON Leader watch addresses the needs of military personnel for analog watches that can also be used as a simple and efficient navigation tool for orienteering, and other outdoor activities of civil consumers.

Louis Erard 1931 Chrono Vintage Limited Edition

Adding « 2015 » to the name of this new timepiece from Louis Erard would make the Watchmaker’s intentions clear even before contemplating it. Each look at this latest chrono sends us time-travelling between past and present. Its design is steeped in the spirit of the 1931 collection - named for the year the company was founded - with a sobriety that only heightens its functionality, a polished steel case and rounded Arabic numerals echoed by hands in the same silver tones.
Yet this is a strikingly modern watch too, from its assertive all-over black to its athletic contours, measuring exactly 42.5 millimetres in diameter, together with a Valjoux movement and a black leather strap. A subtle but seriously masculine watch that relives the past right here in the present. An exploit which Louis Erard underscores with a limited edition of just 500 pieces. Each one is delivered in an exclusive presentation box, accompanied by a Montegrappa pen for the black dial version.

DAVOSA Black Military Vintage Automatic

The new version of the DAVOSA Military Automatic – the Military Vintage is reminiscent of pilot watches from bygone decades and boasts a correspondingly vintage look. Its most striking characteristic is the black dial with clear bold Arabic figures and hour markers which are coated with Vintage-Superluminova. The luminous material imitates the Radium coated figures and hands of the past in terms of colour - and without any side-effects.
The smooth oil-treated leather strap has been naturally aged in a complex process and features a distinctive hand applied contrast stitching. Every strap is unique and will develop its own patina while wearing. As with all models of the Military series the customer gets an additional black nylon strap for free. The DAVOSA Military Vintage is available for 678 Euros.
As with the first military models, DAVOSA selected a stainless steel case with a diameter of 42 mm for the Military Vintage, which can be termed a classic choice. The watch’s striking appearance is generated primarily via the scratch-proof, domed and non-reflecting sapphire crystal, the large, grip crown and, last but not least, the dial, which recalls a cockpit instrument. The hands, outsize hour markers and date display in “triple date” format are all particularly reminiscent of aircraft altimeters.
The watch is powered automatically via the tried-and-tested Swiss quality movement ETA 2824-2, and features water resistance up to 200 metres thanks to a screwed steel base and double-sealed crown. Generous luminous digits and markers Vintage-Superluminova guarantee excellent readability, making the DAVOSA suitable for all operations, whether by night, below or above water.

Liu Jo Luxury Graduation Award on accessible luxury awarded at the Quirinal Palace, Rome

The President of the Republic of Italy, Sergio Mattarella, the Chairman of the Leonardo Committee Luisa Todini, Deputy Minister of Economic Development Carlo Calenda, the President of the Institute for Foreign Trade Riccardo Monti and the CEO of Nardelli Luxury and Creative Director of Liu Jo Luxury Bruno Nardelli awarded the Liu Jo Luxury Graduation Award at the award ceremony for the Leonardo Prizes, held in Rome at the seat of the Presidency of the Italian Republic.

The aim of the first “Liu Jo Luxury Award” is to award young students for research that takes into account changes in the fashion market and takes a deeper look into consumer styles and needs of the accessible luxury and fast fashion clientele, identifying the levers of communication and marketing that enable companies to remain competitive on the market and meet the demands of consumers in this sector.
This year Liu Jo Luxury - a brand created in 2006 out of the partnership between the LIU JO clothing company and Nardelli Luxury, a leading national player in the jewellery sector – decided to join the Graduation Awards initiative promoted by the Leonardo Committee and set up to award young graduates who have worked on theses regarding topics of important relevance for the success of the “Made in Italy”.

The Leonardo Committee, which is currently chaired by Luisa Todini, came into being in 1993, starting from a common effort on the part of Senator Sergio Pininfarina and Senator Gianni Agnelli, of Confindustria (the Confederation of Italian Industry), ICE (the Italian Institute for Foreign Trade), and a group of entrepreneurs, with the objective of promoting Italy as a national system through a variety of initiatives aimed at bringing to the forefront its qualities of entrepreneurship, artistic creativity, refinement and cultural attributes reflected in its products and lifestyle. The Graduation Awards constitute an initiative that the Leonardo Committee has promoted since 1997 thanks to the support provided by its members and over time this initiative has made it possible to award over 200 brilliant graduates from as many university institutes throughout the nation.

The Liu Jo Luxury Award joins other awards concerning the fashion world including Corneliani S.p.A., Centro di Firenze per la Moda Italiana, Consorzio Orafo Il Tarì and those focused on other sectors, including Bonfiglioli Riduttori, Fondazione Bracco, Fondazione Manlio Masi, Gestore dei Servizi Energetici - G.S.E. Perini Navi S.p.A. and Simest S.p.A.

Fine Arts News - Kirsty Mitchell ‘WONDERLAND’ Private View at Mead Carney Fine Art, London

London based Mead Carney Fine Art presents ‘Wonderland’, a new selling exhibition by award winning fine art photographer Kirsty Mitchell. ‘Wonderland’ is a project created over the course of five years as homage to the artist’s mother who tragically passed away in 2008.

Having worked in fashion for a number of years, Kirsty understood the constructed and filmic nature of the photographic image. Building on this, she incorporated childlike whim through the creation of her favorite fairytales that her mother read to her as a child. With minimal support and finances, she built what can be likened to a film set in order to stage each frame. The tailor-made dresses and make-up add an element of high fashion into the work. However, props such as ships, headdresses and books transform the image further; each item carefully built and placed so as to convey a personal sense of imagination. Kirsty’s oeuvre is whimsical and dream-like.
It consists of over 70 photographs that intertwine fantasy, literature and personal mediations. The selection presented shows the breadth and complexity of the highly constructed artworks. The highly saturated colours give a vivid, fairytale quality to each image. Intense contrasts intensify the surreal quality of each work; reality is undermined by the lack of gravity and soft lighting.

Upon completion in November 2014, ‘Wonderland’ immediately won 2 international awards, with over 280,000 followers on its social media. It has been extensively featured throughout the world achieving a viral status online, and has been published by prestigious names such as Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue Italia, The Guardian, BBC news, Germany’s Spiegel Online and Stern magazine to name but a few.

Kirsty Mitchell
Kirsty Mitchell received a Higher National Diploma from the London College of Fashion and a Bachelor’s degree from Ravensbourne College of Art. She interned at the studios of Alexander McQueen and Hussein Chalayan. Before leaving fashion to pursue photography, she worked as a senior designer at Karen Millen for over ten years. Following her mother’s illness and passing, she began to create what is now known as ‘Wonderland’. The images warranted coverage from BBC News, Italian Vogue, and Polish Harper’s Bazaar, to name a few. She won a number of awards including the grand prize for visual storytelling by Lensculture in 2014 and a place as the Nikon Ambassador of Fine Art Photography. By the end of 2015, she hopes to realize a book containing the images from ‘Wonderland’ through the launch of a campaign on Kickstarter.

Corum Admiral’s Cup Legend 42 Colette X Thomas Erber

Swiss luxury watch maker Corum joins the famous Parisian concept store colette and the internationally renowned artist Thomas Erber in an exclusive partnership; resulting in the creation of a Limited Edition of 10 timepieces that is exclusively distributed at colette.

During one week, the watch brand takes up residence at 213 rue Saint-Honoré, with a showcase executed by the studio “Diplomates”. In collaborating with Thomas Erber for this unique project, this limited edition timepiece is showcased in a fairytale-like chalet in an abstract form.

Using a completely organic approach, the structure draws its inspiration from the “Style Sapin”; a decorative art form from the La Chaux-de-Fonds of the early twentieth century, and is made of a natural larch wood and steel structure constructed with the legendary codes of the Corum Admiral’s Cup collection.
Corum revisits the codes of this iconic timepiece and reinterprets it in metallic shades. Its twelve-sided case from 42 mm, in brushed steel, houses an automatic movement caliber CO 395. The hour markers are shown traditionally by the nautical pennants while the matt dial displays the minute indicators which are treated in Superluminova for better reading. Finally, a small seconds counter with the personalized initials of Thomas Erber positioned at 6 o’clock, hosts an indigo blue luminescent hand – the colette store’s color. United by the same avant-garde values, Corum is engaging in a partnership which showcases the image of its models.

Hermès - Slim d’Hermès Pocket So H

Certain designs encapsulate the entire graphic culture of a House and the So H motif, created in 1971 for a Hermès tie, is definitely one of these. It now appears for the first time on the cover of a pocket watch: Slim d’Hermès Pocket So H. This exceptional model is issued in six-piece limited series for each of the four creations, respectively featuring a hawk’s eye dial with pink gold case; an ox-eye dial with gem-set rose gold case; an onyx dial with white gold case; and an aventurine dial with gem-set white gold case.
Giving life to this skilfully orchestrated interlacing pattern of “Hs” is a task that demands a particular blend of infinite patience and technical mastery. The finishing of the cover alone takes around 45 hours. The artisan begins with a previously open-worked gold plate. A small graver is used to eliminate any rough patches on the surface of the cover and render it completely smooth, while devoting particular care to the interwoven “Hs”. Then comes the polishing. In a subtle rhythmic dance performed with pegs made from various types of wood ranging from the hardest to the softest, the artisan applies different pastes that will gradually rub down the gold and reveal its full brilliance.
The light, airy composition of the So H cover protects a hard stone dial of which tantalizing glimpses appear through its openings. Whether adorned with white diamonds or in a simply polished version, it distils a time that is infinitely Hermès, beating to the steady pace of the ultra-thin Manufacture Hermès H1950 calibre.
