Vulcain 50s Presidents’ Watch Tradition, Featuring New Cricket V-40 Calibre

In 2015, Vulcain concentrated on the graphic development of its main collections, offering a number of redesigned manufacture models. This year, the Le Locle-based brand has chosen to focus more deeply on something at core of its identity: the Cricket calibre.

Vulcain has left its mark on the history of alarm watches. In 1947, the brand unveiled the Cricket alarm calibre, a movement innovative enough to be featured in several Vulcain wristwatches, and which quickly found its place in the history of Haute Horlogerie.

This year, Vulcain is paying tribute to this feat of technology by unveiling the fruit of several months of research and development: the V-40, a new version of the Cricket movement. Several objectives had to be met in the creation of this manual movement: first was the need to increase the power reserve from 40 to 52 hours; second was the possibility to make a change to its appearance, whilst still exemplifying classic elegance and understatement.

Until now, all timepieces equipped with a Cricket movement have had four hands in the centre (hour, minute, seconds and alarm). However, the introduction of the V-40 has enabled a change to their appearance, with the seconds counter at 8 o’clock and the alarm counter at 4 o’clock.

Available as four new references, these models meet the aesthetic expectations both of the brand and of its discerning clientèle, by offering a choice of subtle, elegant colours. Discretion and refinement are the watchwords for the first two pieces in this new collection, available with a black velours or grained beige dial with pink indices.
Two additional models, adorned with a clous-de-paris central section and a sunray edge, combining heritage with modernity and available in a choice of silver or ruthenium-plated versions, complete this collection.
