Jaermann & Stübi Watches : Manufacture of Mechanical Golf Counter Watches

Jaermann & Stübi is a modern Swiss watch brand specialized in the production of watches featuring mechanical golf counter complication. Founded by Urs Jaermann and Pascal Stübi, the brand made its debut with a mechanical golf watch model at Basel world 2007. The J&S specialize in premium timepieces with additional functions for golfers and collaborates with St Andrews Links, the Home of Golf, and legendary gold players like Seve Ballesteros, Nick Faldo, Ben Crenshaw, among others.
Jaermann & Stübi Seve Ballesteros II Limited Edition

Urs Jaermann and Pascal Stübi share a passion for watches as well as a passion for golf. The communications specialist Jaermann and the watch specialist Stübi have long cherished the same dream: to create their own watch. Golf, the sport passionately pursued by Jaermann, gave them the idea of developing a luxury watch with a sophisticated golf counter. Their ambition and their passion presented a challenge to them.

The two partners worked enthusiastically until their watch was equipped with a mechanical automatic movement and a mechanical complication and met their exacting aesthetic standards. The innovations in the Jaermann & Stübi watch include counting the strokes per hole during a golf game, calculating the total score and comparing it with the handicap using the bezel. And all this takes place purely mechanically.

Mechanical Golf Counter and Shock Absorber
The in-house teams at Jaermann & Stübi have developed a mechanical counter to record the number of strokes played per hole, giving a total score at the end of 18 holes and a retrograde display of the holes played. At the end of each round, the rotating bezel allows the score to be compared to the player’s handicap. Because, during their swing, golf players exert a force of 20-40 G in a few milliseconds, the brand also focussed on developing a shock absorber specially designed for this sport, dampening impacts and thereby protecting the mechanism and the complication.

Origins of the Brand
Urs Jaermann loves to play golf, but he doesn't have much time for it, and is thus satisfied with unexceptional results in golf tournaments. As an average player, counting strokes often impaired his concentration on the game, so that he wished he had a reliable counting device. His passion for fine watches gave him the idea of a beautiful golf watch with a score counter.

And then, Pascal Stübi and Urs Jaermann met at a seminar they were both attending in 2002. During their conversations, they found that they shared the same opinion on many things, and had plenty of ideas in common, as well. Moreover, the combination of Stübi's experience in the watchmaking industry, particularly in the production of watches, and Jaermann's dream of his own brand of watches became an increasingly engrossing topic, so that they decided to follow their dreams and create their own brand of watches. The first model was to be a luxury golf watch with a stroke counter.

After the idea and theme, movement and design were established, the partners went looking for suppliers. They succeeded in persuading the best Swiss watchmakers to help them turn their idea into reality. Thus, the top master craftsmen developed the movement and the golf counter complication for Jaermann & Stübi in keeping with the tradition of the 19th century, but using state-of-the-art technology and tools. Every Jaermann & Stübi watch is made meticulously by hand in the watchmakers' valleys of the Jura region in exclusive small series, and individually numbered.

In 2007, Jaermann & Stübi launched a watch with a mechanical golf counter and an outstanding automatic movement at the BaselWorld trade fair. The core of the new watch by Jaermann & Stübi is the golf counter complication, a brand-new development for which a patent is pending. The golf counter complication is fully mechanical and has a counter with a display for counting the strokes per hole, a second counter with a display for the total number of strokes and a third counter with a retrograde display of the holes played. The three counters are triggered by pushbuttons on the left side of the watch.

This leaves the wrist comfortably free and the pushbuttons never disturb the golfer's swing. Furthermore, they are not covered by the golf glove. With regard to its standards and design, the golf counter complication can be compared with a chronograph. The movement as well as the golf counter complication are given extra protection against shocks and impacts by a shock absorber integrated in the case.

The watch cases are made of high-grade steel or 18-carat gold. They are water-resistant down to 100 meters, and sealed with a cambered, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal that is 1.8 mm thick. The case is hermetically sealed to the watch base with eight screws. Turning the bezel lets the golfer set his handicap and compare it with his score. For the movement, Jaermann & Stübi decided to use the newly developed and especially rugged A10 caliber, which has a power reserve of 42 hours and belongs to the chronometer class.

The two entrepreneurs were pleasantly surprised by the number of watch connoisseurs and golfers who expressed interest in their elegant watch. The year 2007 was an intense one for the two up-and-coming entrepreneurs. It gave Urs Jaermann and Pascal Stübi the reassurance of knowing that they had hit upon the right idea. Since they entered the market in April 2007, Jaermann & Stübi have succeeded in building up an excellent network of distributors, which has now expanded outside Switzerland.

In 2007, the watch was already being marketed by individual dealers in France, Germany and the USA. Specialist retailers and distributors are highly impressed with the product, which displays the player's own score after each round and compares it to their handicap.

The watch with the patented golf counter complication and the modern A10 automatic movement goes down well with golfers and watch connoisseurs alike. It offers functions that are unique and exclusive on the market: counting a player’s strokes per hole, adding up the total score per round and comparing it with the player's handicap. The golf counter is clearly a very useful element, and the complication is so sophisticated and innovative that it also impresses watch connoisseurs. With its range of styles, the entire collection is both elegant and sporty and also fits a woman's more slender wrist.

In 2008, the “St Andrews Links" collection was launched in collaboration with the legendary St Andrews Links golf course in Scotland.
Jaermann & Stübi Royal Open Course Timer & GMT
In 2009, Jaermann & Stübi presented the new "Royal Open" series and as the maker of the first mechanical watch that counts the strokes during the game, adds up the total score and compares it with the handicap, Jaermann & Stübi celebrated 250 years of  stroke play with the limited edition "St Andrews Links Stroke Play 1759".
St Andrews Links Stroke Play 1759
In 2010, Jaermann & Stübi became the official supplier and timekeeper of St Andrews Links, The Home of Golf, and is launched a limited-edition special model for The Old Course. In 2012, the brand launched the Queen of Golf - first golf counter watch for lady golfers - and the Trans Atlantic - the first golf chronometer with a mechanical counter and yard-meter conversion.
Jaermann & Stübi Queen of Golf

Today, Jaermann & Stübi is part of Excellence Holding AG, based in Rapperswil. The company is based in Le Locle, Switzerland, where all of its collections are produced and assembled. It focuses on the manufacture of high quality, mechanical timepieces with additional functions for golfers, and is the official licensee of St Andrews Links, the home of golf.

Jubileon Superellipse: Swiss Made Automatic Watch Designed In Singapore

Singapore based watch brand Jubileon unveils its debut collection Superellipse, a premium Swiss Made automatic watch featuring a unique and unorthodox exterior design realised with a beautiful cushion case and screwed down bezel. The name of the watch is inspired by the super ellipse curve, which is the mathematical representation of the cushion shape.
Jubileon has launched an online crowd funding campaign for its Superellipse watch collection Kickstarter on 30 July 2016. Pledge starts from AUD 600 with free international shipping for the first 30 backers.

Jubileon was founded by two mechanical engineers in 2015, when Singapore celebrated the country’s Golden Jubilee. The major attraction of the Jubileon Superellipse is the iconic ‘cushion’ shape. In Superellipse, the ‘cushion’ shape is hinted through the bezel, the caseback, the crown, the minute markings on the dial and at the base of the three hands.
The case is a 3-component assembly comprising the bezel, body and caseback. Each piece is made of medical grade 316L stainless steel. To manufacture, each piece is first stamped out from a blank to get an approximate shape and then machined to the final form. Finally, the chamfers are expertly polished to achieve the scintillating mirror finish, while the remaining surfaces are carefully brushed to get the beautiful ‘hairline’ finish. The case has been meticulously designed, which is apparent from the many smooth contours on the case, such as the one joining the lugs to the side of the watch.
The bezel and the caseback are screwed down to the main body with four screws each. The screws, which have customised screw heads that are beautifully polished, also double as ornamental adornments to the four corners of the bezel and the caseback. The word ‘SUPERELLIPSE’ is laser-engraved on the top of the caseback, while the first 500 Superellipse watches additionally feature a limited edition running number at the bottom.
Both the bezel and the caseback are encased with scratch resistant sapphire crystals. For the caseback, the sapphire crystal provides a clear window to the intricate inner workings of the ETA 2824-2 movement.
The clutter free dial of Jubileon Superellipse features pad-printed minute markings and applied hour indices with multiple chamfers to improve reflectivity. The pad-printed ‘JUBILEON SUPERELLIPSE’ and ‘AUTOMATIC’ markings respectively on the top and bottom gives a well-balanced feel to the dial.
The leaf-shaped hour and minute hands are derivative of the superellipse shape – achieved by joining together two opposite curves in the superellipse shape. In addition, the each of the hand also sports a base of the superellipse shape. Super-Luminova C1 pigments are applied on the hands to ensure great visibility at low light, while the sloped top surfaces improves light reflection and legibility during the day. The heart of the Superellipse is the Swiss Made ETA 2824-2 movement.
The Superellipse comes with a black genuine calfskin leather strap (with optional crocodile pattern embossing), or a black woven nylon strap. The buckle is the traditional tongue buckle, brushed to the same hairline finish as the case, with the Jubileon logo etched at the side.

Jaeger-LeCoultre supports restoration of the Scuola Grande di San Rocco in Venice

For over a decade, Jaeger-LeCoultre has forged strong ties with Venice based on a love of the arts and the conservation of cultural h eritage. Not only is it a partner to the Mostra, Venice’s International Film Festival, it has also become patron of the Scuola Grande di San Rocco - a unique place which is close to the hearts of all Venetians - and has sponsored restoration work there since 2013. During the 73rd Mostra, the Grande Maison will give all visitors a chance to take part in an initiative to increase its donations to this exceptional building.
Scuola Grande di San Rocco
All you have to do is to draw a heart, one which reflects your style and inspires you. By sketching this symbol in a digital guestbook, every visitor to the Jaeger-LeCoultre reception and exhibition area on the Lido triggers a donation by the Maison towards the restoration of the Scuola Grande di San Rocco. Jaeger-LeCoultre’s ambassador Carmen Chaplin, the first to take part in the project, drew a heart which was engraved on the back of a Reverso watch and will be displayed for the occasion.
Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Classic Medium engraved with a heart drwan by Carmen Chaplin - Venice 2016
In this way, visitors and friends of the brand are invited to express their support for Jaeger-LeCoultre’s values and to promote conservation of the heritage of this exceptional building, which never fails to captivate all those who enter it.

The supremely opulent Scuola Grande di San Rocco, built as an institution, is unique for its peerless collection of paintings by Tintoretto (1518-1594). Located in the San Polo district of Venice, the fraternity was founded in 1478 and dedicated to Saint Roch, patron saint of the plague-stricken, to fight epidemics and bring succour to the diseased population. Thanks to Jaeger-LeCoultre’s patronage, visitors can now benefit from improvements to the lighting which showcases Tintoretto’s highly light sensitive works to perfection. A new LED system - projecting fewer of the infrared and ultraviolet rays causing colours to deteriorate over time - has been installed in the Sala dell’Albergo. The second part of the sponsorship programme concerns the Scuola’s marbles, in particular those in the Sala Capitol are and on the impressive portal leading to the imperial staircase, which are being restored with meticulous care. This requires passionate craftsmanship and unparalleled patience and attention to detail, bringing to mind the watchmakers of the Vallée de Joux who work each day to breathe new life into exceptional timepieces.

Preserving and passing on heritage are fundamental values for Jaeger-LeCoultre. The Manufacture sets great store by protecting not only natural world heritage sites, as through its collaboration with UNESCO, but also artistic heritage, demonstrated by its support for the restoration of the Scuola Grande di San Rocco. Caring for the legacy created by skilled and talented craftsmen in order to pass it on to future generations is a natural choice for a Maison with such a rich and precious heritage as JaegerLeCoultre.

Each day in its ateliers, expert artisans restore timepieces from the past to their former glory, working not only on the mechanisms but also the Métiers Rares® of gem setting, enamelling and engraving. The Manufacture provides this repair service for all watches and clocks ever made there, in keeping with the principle of absolute respect for the piece's history and integrity. It even goes so far as to reproduce watch components which are no longer made, using original drawings. This unique expertise is key to passing on watchmaking heritage and techniques.

During the Mostra, the Maison will exhibit pictures of the recent restoration of a remarkable pendant watch designed by Antoine LeCoultre, the Manufacture’s founder, for his wife Zélie LeCoultre. It was the first model to feature an ingenious invention by Antoine: the crown winding system for setting the time and winding the watch which replaced the key that had previously been required.
Pendant watch designed by Antoine LeCoultre  for his wife Zélie LeCoultre
The Grande Maison’s master watchmakers have given a new lease of life to this watch, which bears the following inscription by Zélie’s grandson Jacques-David LeCoultre on the case back: Souvenir de ma chère grand-mère Zélie LeCoultre (In memory of my dear grandmother, Zélie LeCoultre). This is a heartfelt tribute that reflects Jaeger LeCoultre’s involvement in conserving the heritage of the city of the Doges.

Ateliers Demonaco Introduces Five New Pieces for Ladies from the Ronde De Monte-Carlo Collection

Aiming to please women who enjoy both quality timepieces and a touch of sparkle, Ateliers deMonaco presents the Ronde de Monte-Carlo.

When it comes to diamonds, precious stones and noble materials, women and watchmakers carry the same passion.  Ateliers deMonaco have created this collection to celebrate this shared fascination for luxury without sacrificing practicality, enabling ladies to find a watch to fit one’s lifestyle.
The Ronde de Monte-Carlo was born in Monaco, the utmost symbol of nobility. Monte-Carlo being the most well-known and prestigious part of Monaco, hundreds of special events such as the Grand prix de Monaco, the Rally de Monte-Carlo or the Ballet de Monte-Carlo are hosted there each year. Inspired by this opulent neighbourhood, Ateliers deMonaco decided to gift its refined ladies’ collection with the Monte-Carlo name.
Elegant and stylish with its round and harmonious case, the Ronde de Monte-Carlo is a classical yet modern timepiece. Although very distinctive and feminine, the design safeguards Ateliers deMonaco’s identity, turning the watch into a timeless treasure.
The stunning model carries an in-house movement with 26 jewels and a hand-graved 22 carats gold rotor and a silicium escape wheel. The bridges are carefully decorated by hand by the manufacture’s skilful watchmakers. The sapphire case-back enables the finesse and sophistication of the movement’s details to be admired. The 18 carats rose or white gold case is brushed, polished, assembled by hand and carries 300 diamonds offering an everlasting shine.
Finally, the mother-of-pearl on the dial stands as a token of the brand’s love for grace and exquisite details. The Ronde de Monte-Carlo’s sophisticated outlook is enhanced by a hand-stitched alligator leather strap adorned by a 18k rose gold or white gold folding buckle.

This emblematic line from the manufacture welcomes five newcomers to the range, offering an option to suit any wishes. Should one be looking for a classical timepiece, the white mother-of-pearl dial model fitted in a rose or white gold case would make an ideal companion for any occasion.
Otherwise, for a sporty-chic feel, one should try the blue mother-of-pearl timepiece, a lovely homage to the appealing waters boarding the French Riviera. Finally, should one prefer an elegant yet sparkling watch, then the Ronde de Monte-Carlo set with its 617 diamonds, would make the perfect match.

Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde SW Lady

Jaquet Droz is presenting its first feminine model of the Grande Seconde SW in 41 mm set with 40 diamonds.

Since the beginning of Jaquet Droz, the figure 8 has held pride of place in the imagination of the brand known by its twin stars. A symbol of infinity, balance and achievement, its silhouette has adorned the Grande Seconde since the Enlightenment, while the watch’s two superimposed subdials shake up the aesthetics of watchmaking by celebrating the poetry of the most fleeting instants.

Launched in 2008, the Grande Seconde SW is its athletic version, with a powerful and distinguished build that has made it one of the leading models of Jaquet Droz. This year, a new version is being unveiled. Sporty and feminine, imposing and precious, the Grande Seconde SW Lady is instantly recognizable. Its stainless steel case, 41 mm in diameter, is offered for the first time in a version set with diamonds.
Following in the great tradition of mineral dials that made Jaquet Droz famous, a mother-of-pearl disc, as beautiful as it is delicate, forms the dial of this watch. Shimmering effects and the play of light interact with the sparkle of 40 diamonds set on the fluted bezel and with the reflections of the ring and plates in white gold. The case's finishes, in turn brushed and polished, add to the enchanting and captivating design of this model.
Each element has been given special attention. The horns have been hollowed for greater lightness, a dynamic touch highlighted by the sporty spirit of the crown’s rubber cast, offering water-resistance to 5 bar (50 meters). Running across the traced Arabic and Roman numerals, the blued steel hands are partially coated in Super-LumiNova to shine in the dark, displaying the time with the exceptional reliability that is made possible by the silicon balance spring with which the movement is equipped, as this material is unaffected by magnetic fields or changes in temperature and pressure.
A watch that is firmly contemporary and sporty, the Grande Seconde SW Lady is also a treasure of luxurious femininity. The alligator leather strap, directly incorporated into the case, is offered in elegant powdered violet. The movement, visible through sapphire crystal, captures the attention and makes it possible follow each motion of the hollowed out weight atop a sunray-polished Côtes de Genève motif.

In addition to its twin stars, watch lovers will be able to recognize the secret signature of Jaquet Droz, a cloverleaf, subtly engraved on the movement.

Hublot and Juventus Celebrate “Hublot Loves Football” In Melbourne

Hublot and Juventus are a pairing that stands for passion, records and sports adrenaline. Two giants, the first in the world of Haute Horlogerie, the second in football, celebrated their long-standing partnership at Crown Tower’s Monards Store on Monday 25 July, in celebration of the team’s Australia summer tour.

Hot on the heels of the UEFA EURO2016™, where Hublot served as the Official Watch, this partnership and timepiece are another example of Hublot’s love for global “football” and ongoing support of the “Hublot Loves Football” campaign launched during FIFA World Cup Brazil™ in summer 2014 as well the second campaign presented during the UEFA EURO 2016TM.

Friend of Hublot, David Trezeguet, who is currently in Australia supporting Juventus’ presence at the 2016 International Champions Cup was the special guest during the VIP celebration. Having scored 135 goals in 245 league appearances for Juventus overall, his accomplishments with the club make him the highest foreign scorer in their history. Trezeguet joined alongside Daniele Rugani and Paulo Dybala, players from the Serie A TIM 2015-2016 winning team for the occasion. VIP guests had the chance to view Hublot’s latest novelties within Monard’s shop-in-shop.

From being the first luxury brand to align with football in 2006, and for the ten years following, Hublot has led its established commitment to football ever since. Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Eclipse - Tribute to Vincent van Gogh, Second Series

Jaeger-LeCoultre and the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam present the second series of the Reverso à Eclipse watch in tribute to Vincent van Gogh, featuring an enameled miniature of the self-portrait as a painter (1887-88) on the dial. This masterpiece is one of Van Gogh’s most famous paintings and to this day the piece is presented in the permanent collection of the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.
The idea for these remarkable collaborations between Jaeger-LeCoultre and the Van Gogh Museum came from its Dutch boutique partner Gassan. Their wish to create a piece combining three components: craftsmanship, art and heritage came alive in these tributes to the world’s most famous Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh.
The great work of the Dutch impressionist will be honored in this second series with Van Gogh’s Selfportrait enameled on the dial of the Reverso à Eclipse watch crafted in the workshops of the Swiss Manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre. A simple gesture is enough to open the shutters of the watch, and to reveal a miniature recreation of Van Gogh’s work. The first series was presented in 2015 featuring his iconic Sunflowers.
The Reverso à Eclipse is a unique reversible watch featuring a platinum case equipped with the in-house Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 849, which lends itself perfectly for one of the rarest fine art traditions, miniature enamel painting. This unique craftsmanship demands precision, virtuosity and patience from the enameling artists at the Manufacture, one of the few places in the world where this fine art tradition is carried out.

This unique masterpiece, of which only four pieces will be made, was achieved in close conjunction with Gassan and can be admired in the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.
