Swiss watch brand Edox has partnered with the Arqueonautas (company active in the research of shipwrecks and of archaeological surveys) and Indonesia's Bureau for the Protection of Cultural Heritage, for a survey of what is considered to be the final resting place of five ships of the Vereenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie, the famed Dutch East India Company. The fleet drowned in March 1650 onto a reef off the island of Kabaena in Southeast Sulawesi (Indonesia).
The first expedition took place in April. Some interesting and valuable remnants have been found. The Tijger flagship vessel of this fleet is now confirmed to by lying there. A total of 5 shipwrecks have been found and further investigation is now on process in order to identify the other wrecks. The next expedition will take place in November 2017.
Edox is celebrating its partnership with Arqueonautas Fashion Brand, with the release of a new timepiece, the Edox Delfin Fleet 1650 Limited Edition (200 pieces worldwide).
